    Stairs - an open thread

Stairs at Library of Birmingham - I liked the lighting effects they used, and they actively encourage stair rather than lift usage, which I agree with as people are often far too lazy to use stairs - Canon 1Ds, Nikon 28mm f/3.5 AI

    MPB

the Canon NP-E3 was discontinued some years ago - was used for 1D, 1D mk II, 1Ds & 1Ds mkII so pretty ancient battery tech from the early 2000s - I'd imagine a newer non oem could work better than a very old OEM battery

    MPB

MPB seem quite good at fixing problems quickly - I recently got a Canon 1Ds from them and it came with a third party battery rather than OEM so they refunded me £25 based on another 1Ds being listed as same condition but without OEM battery for £25 less - The supplied battery (DSTE) seems to...

    Another Arnolfini Exhibition

I was there on Tuesday - I usually like to pop into the Arnolfini on my way to the Beer Factory when I'm in Bristol and they have some pretty unusual exhibits

It was super windy yesterday which I quite like as I think it kept the crowds away from the beach - the north end of the beach was far less windy than the Woolacombe end where the RLNI were on duty

    Getting over my prime snobbery

Less is more - I could happily live with just my trusty 28mm prime - it would be ideal for hiking - super light and great for landscape type shots

    MPB

I would imagine for a business that is 99.9% mail order it would be a big cost to have a customer facing reception area and staff to keep it permanently manned - similar to many restaurants that are going 100% online only known as 'dark kitchens'

    MPB

MPB have been very good service wise - Recently used them to buy a 5D Mk1 and they had loads at good prices - Thought I would order a cheap Canon lens to go with it then realised I had a perfectly good Nikon lens and just needed an adapter so asked them to cancel the lens - they had already...

    Is digital dead now?

the quality of a mobile phone camera might be very good but for me it's all too automated - i prefer to manually focus, set the aperture & shutter speed which would all be quite difficult on a phone - also prefer an optical viewfinder to using a screen
