Learn how to do it, then decide?
If I'm doing landscape stuff, I use back button as mentioned earlier so I can then recompose.
I don't use a tripod much anymore, if I did I imagine I'd start just poking the area of the live view screen to select focus point and shoot.
Then they have greater exposure to different ideas and ways of thinking. Inspiration to draw from and understanding what different options they don't like.
Modern tech firms seem to be getting more and more invasive. I know it sounds tin foil hat.....but I'm getting sick of Alexa, I tell her to turn the lights on and she's asking if I want to set up a routine for going to bed. No, just turn the damn light on!
Or amazon prime, chirping up through...
The first one, for much the same reason as some have already said.
I have been considering a similar thing with some of my recent photos. Conclusion I came to so keep the wide shots as mostly viewphotos on mobile / laptop etc so can easily enough zoom in closer when viewing if desired. Bit...

Had to drop the 1.4tc as didn't realise the lens I was getting had a mark on the front lens. Better safe than sorry...
