Image quality is important as I sell images on my website, being rugged and weather sealed also is important. I used to have a Fuji XT20 that was great as I could carry it around easily as it was light and discreet but I didn't use it all the time as it lacked weather sealing.

I know nothing of what is a good or bad lens for the Olympus system, hence me saying a load. I'd like to shoot video with it as a blogging camera maybe for when my DJI pocket 2 isn't charged etc.

My go to lens for Landscapes is the 8-25mm f4 as I can use 85mm filters. For most pro lenses learn about the manual focus clutch.

Wow, there is a pretty killer deal from OM system right now - olympus ep7 with pancake kit zoom (electronic zoom, but a seriously underrated lens that focuses close, is tiny and plenty sharp wide open) for £550.


I'm tempted to trade in my 40-150mm F4 pro for it, I don't use my em1 mark iii as often as I gravitate toward the epl-7... Anyway thought some here may be interested. It doesn't have as many of the mad computational things, but it's pretty, has the 20mp sensor from the older cameras (which is great), 5 axis IS and focus stacking. Just no clever em1 mark iii nd mode or composite mode.
 
I think I may have an issue with my OM-1 (MK I) and wonder if a few of you could check something for me please on your bodies.

For a little while now when in video mode I been noticing a soft but high frequency chattering loud enough to be heard coming from ( I think), the body, and enough to be picked up by the inbuilt microphones. I think it’s the IBIS mechanism but have tried in a number of modes (IS Auto, Mode 1, Mode 2 etc) to no avail. I’ve even turned the IBIS off in the camera menu, but the “chattering” is still there. Now the weird thing is, the noise it isn’t there with all my lenses only some.

Olympus 12-100 F4 pro
Olympus 25mm f1.2 pro
Olympus 45mm f1.2 pro

Those not affected (totally silent)

Olympus 40-150 F2.8 pro

I don't have an om-1 so well out if turn, but can you confirm whether it's autofocus? Say, set to manual focus, and confirm?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve done that too. Pulled back on the manual focus clutch to put each lens into manual mode - no difference ?

Right I seem to have moved things on.

It turns out I had the "manual focus clutch" set to inoperable in the menus, so when I thought I was in manual focus mode, I wasn't :) So now when I slip the focus clutch back into the manual position, I defiantly hear the noise stop (on all the affected lenses), so it's most certainly AF noise. I've also narrowed it down to being in AF-C or AF-C+TR only (AF-S is silent), so it must be something to do with the camera looking for focus and micro-adjusting ?

Sometimes Andrew being hard of hearing like myself is a blessing , :rolleyes: I thankfully don’t hear the noises that annoy other people .my lad though can even hear field mice in the holes as we walk down a path .
My worst experiences are with cyclists on a shared footpath who come up behind you at speed thinking I have heard there little bells .nope not a chance

Theres a focus hunt option (probably not called that). i always have that turned off. Maybe its that?

I did it - traded my em1 mark iii and 40-150mm pro lens for the ep7 and kit lens.

Yep, it's a massive downgrade, but I use my epl-7 a lot more to be honest, and the 40-150mm F4 pro is excellent, small, sharp, light etc but doesn't get tons of use - it's in that weird spot where it's not long enough for the stuff I want a long lens for. I think a 100-300mm is perhaps more interesting to me., and the plastic fantastic 40-150mm will do the job for me.

The ep7 is more like an upgraded epl-7 (or, perhaps, a sort-of pen f with some upgrades and lacking a viewfinder). I don't mind the balance with the 12+40mm 2.8 pro but it'll mostly be paired with the kit zooms, primes or an adapted pentax 110 lens. Happy days.

The trade leaves me with some cash that's going to go toward a treadmill for the wife - she's pretty happy with the deal too!
 
Can I ask a question with user presets. I watched a video that said to amend your settings in whatever priority you want, such as A, S, M, P and then make your changes within the menus etc and then save to a preset in Inthink the A1 menu. In doing this, I'd have to then go back and change everything I just dialled in back to "normal". This is then repeated for the other 2 presets spaces. Is it possible on the M1 mk3 to go to U1 or U2, U3 on the dial and then alter the settings there and then and then save from there, so your daily settings are not played with?

Try this

open the Menu 1 (Basic Settings) -> Custom modes -> C1/C2/C3/C4 -> Save Settings and change from the default Reset to Hold. This way, any changes you apply while in a Custom Mode will automatically be saved.

Yep correct if saved while using a C mode only the new settings are saved in that mode .your normal A ,S,M modes are unchanged

I bought the E-PL5 a few weeks ago with the 14.42 lens , it replaces a e-pl2 that had a faulty i.b.i.s system . came with quite a few extras to and obviously integrates with my other lenses . already had the flash gun and I also bought the eyepiece attachment which is a lovely bit of kit . you will enjoy it
