Hi Folks,

Just wondered if anyone had any input on the Tamron 70 - 300 DI motorised for a Nikon D40. I had been thinking of saving (and in reality will probably do so) for the Nikon 70 - 300AF-S VR but the Tamron is nearly a third of the price.:suspect:

Whilst I appreciate that the Tamron is cheaper orf a reason and does not have VR is it a good lens in terms of sharpness and IQ?

I had thought of the Sigma but a lot of people seem to have build quality issues.:bang:

Does anyone have any sample images of the Tamron?

Many thanks for the advice.

I have the sigma apo dg 70-300 macro lens, canon fit. Happy to send you some samples from that. Really pleased with it. Very, very sharp lens.

Get the Nikon... I'm sure you already know its better, you just needed written justification... so here it is. Get the Nikon!

Don't rule out the Nikon 70-300G (not the VR version). It is slow, compared to the AF-S VR version, and noisy; but I've had some of my best shots of F1 taken with that lens.

For the price, resale value, and image quality it is superb. I would strongly recommend it even though it doesn't get much good mention.
