I might be missing something; but if not would it be possible to add a link such that when you have added a single day event (or any other event) in the calendar you can add another quickly without going back to Extras Calendar.

That's not bad, 16 minutes from suggestion to implementation....And thats only cos I needed the loo and was brewing up too :D
