Marcel

Welcome to Round 2 of the TP : Photographer of the Year 2006.

As usual, the competition rules are here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=9227).

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please use this thread to discuss the competition, and specifically the current round, and your interpretation of it. Also feel free to discuss ideas and thoughts etc. :) While there is an anonymous nature to the submissions and voting, there's no need to be secretive about ideas and the like. While we'd all like to win :D...the competition is for all of us to help improve our photography :)

So, on with this months theme, which is Black & White.
The cut off for submissions to be received is 23:59 on the 30th September 2006.

Good luck to all who enter, and Happy Snapping! :)

* Yes this is a sneaky copy and past from last months thread

I have never been on this forum before, what is involved with the competitions? and how do i submit my photographs?

Brains

Just read the post above and follow the link...it details everything. Just submit a suitable photo at the right dimensions/size to the given e-mail address.

Welcome to the forums. I'm new here too but everyone is much friendlier than some of the other forums I've been on....one other forum in particular where everyone seems to moan all the time!!

RobertP

You mean there are other forums???

Now as I don't like most monos I need a colour shot to represent black and white

The rules for the comp and the e-mail submission address are in the link Marcel posted above. :)

LINK. (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=9227)

Have a look at some of the previous competition entries in the competition galleries to give you some idea what it's all about.

Good luck!

Some entries received BTW. I replied to those by email last night, confirming submission.

If you haven't already got your entry, it might be wise to start thinking about it.
Heaven forbid any email or internet style delays at the last minute.

For some strange reason we got an email the other day that was sent in June! I've never ever seen that before. I think their client may have sat on it for so long...

I'm still stuck for an entry TBH.

Do what I did then, Marcel - come up with any old cobblers! Hahaha!

I've got an Idea for an entry which I can't use if you want it or if I'm allowed to share it.

Marcel
25-09-2006, 16:03
Well obviously someone entering a shot that someone else has taken is a no no.
But sharing actual ideas etc is fine

It might be better if you passed the idea privately though, one to keep the anonimity of the comp, and 2 so no one else nicks it...lol

lee
25-09-2006, 16:44
Yeah was refering to the idea.

Marcel
25-09-2006, 21:17
Yup, I thought so, just wasn't 100%...lol Sorry my bad.

Yeah that's fine sharing ideas. Like I say we're pretty relaxed as far as the competition goes. We're not anal about it all, and the rules are quite basic, but that's it really.

:)

All entries in and counted, uploaded, polished and put on display.

They're all in the POTY competition gallery here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=722).

Have a look through, and submit your votes by PM to me by midnight on the 7th :). Take your time looking through the shots. You've got a full 7 days :)
You can send me your a PM by clicking here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=6).
After the cutoff I'll count the votes and announce the winner.

I would like to offer a heartfelt thankyou! to everyone for entering, 40 odd entries is staggering! A fantastic selection of images, and plenty of variety for everyone to feast their eyes on.

Thanks for entering everyone, good luck to everyone, and the thread for round 3 entries which starts today will be posted shortly :)

Kind Regards

Marcel

Holy Moly !!! How many entries. When i read this and you lot said there was a lot i never thought it would be that many. Great news for the competition, more popular than ever.

Firstly congrats to all who have entered what a wonderful responce with so many styles and different views on the subject.

Secondly what a tough choice to pick three from all of these aint going to be easy.

I'm probably being a bit thick, it has been known ;) ...

But I guess I need to email you my votes? Although in the rules it does say you will be making a poll in the comp forum to vote for your fav 3, then in the gallery its says you can only vote for one image in this category?

Marcel
02-10-2006, 18:02
I could do with updating the rules slightly....
The plan was to use a proposed new polling system in vb3.6, which allowed us to create polls, but keep the results hidden until the end (which is what we need).

As it turns out, they never introduced it, so for the time being we've reverted back to our old way, PMing the member of staff running that round of the competition.
This round it's me :)
So PM me your favourite three :)

Any way of indicating that in the comp gallery? I've just been re-reading to make sure I wasn't imagining I knew how to vote :)

And what is it with the gallery software? First time I looked (before the 'vote' links) it worked fine viewing from #1 to # 40 something using 'next image'. Now I get a random sequence with multiple repeats ??

I got the same using the slideshow, it was random and only showed a small selection of the images. I eventually re-sorted the gallery based on filename and it seemed OK after that!

Marcel

I'll go take a look at the default sort order.

basically there are two 'types' of gallery in photopost pro.

Either Gallery or Contest.
We realised last month, that if you set it to Gallery, you can't increase the default number of shots per page (so that a member sees ALL teh shots on one page from the off). However, this is default if you set it to Contest, hence the way it is now.

I'll go take a looksee for you. Thanks for pointing it out :)

Marcel

I did edit the file which held the phrases, so if you look at the top of the Round 2 Gallery it *should* say "Voting has started please check the forums for how to vote" or something like that (It didnt like me putting links to threads in).

I'll update the rules now too to mention the temporary voting system.

Marcel

did anyone else think it would be fun to see if we could guess which pic belongs to who after the voting is done but before results are announced. There are allot of people on here who know each other's style very well it would be interesting to see who could get the most correct.

Marcel

If I'm up :p

I got up early this morning to get the kids up and make my wife breakfast in bed, so I've been surviving on strong coffee all day :D

Catdaddy
07-10-2006, 22:03
Double coffee and sugar rations per cup - always good for whenever I'm at the office lol

Marcel
07-10-2006, 22:33
lol well it's fresh coffee (well, fresh as in pot fresh, not instant soluble stuff).

Don't have sugar, I have sweeteners (and semi skimmed milk).

Funnily enough, I dont have sugar, full fat milk, I dont drink, rarely eat fried food. So why the friggery am I 18stone?

Global Warming

Cos of this phenomena, the Thyroid Gland becomes more active, in fact over active, putting on weight. Then because of the Global Warming it's too hot to exercise, so the added weight stays on. At least thats my excuse, and I'm sticking to it  :D

Right my guesses. :D

42. The soft teddy pic, gotta be a lens baby right; Marianne then, or they could be pulling a fast one and it’s actually Chuckles....doesn’t seem to have Marianne’s comp style. hmmmm.

31. The pier shot with lamp post and Pepsi bin; Hoodi possibly....got my vote that one.

25. The triple statue upward shot; Boon. In the boon stylie.

10. The cow; Catdaddy for a laugh…hope that doesn’t offend anybody.

My last guess.

01. The glass and white cloudy…in colour; Robert, because he can portray back and white in colour just like he said he would.

Can anyone guess mine...do I have a style?...yet. ;) :(

08-10-2006, 10:51

h.r.ford
08-10-2006, 12:48
I also thought catdaddy did the cow (which I thought was awesome btw) and I'm sure that the bear is Marianne's.

I think that #17 is Mike's purely because he has posted a number of Fountain's Abbey pics...

I'm thinking Modbod for #7
Robert P for #28

That is all I got.... guess we'll see

Congrats to the winners, some excellent photo's again this round.

I didn't vote this round because I assumed that if you entered you couldn't vote, is that right ?

Marcel
08-10-2006, 14:22
Not at all mate. Under the old 'rules' if you entered, you HAD to vote or were disqualified :cuckoo:. We've gotten rid of that rule

If you've entered, you can vote (if you want), if you haven't entered, you can vote (if you want). We're easy. Vote or not, entry or not, it's up to you.

Heck you're even allowed to vote for yourself. We'd prefer you didn't but we don't penalise you if you do ;)

Can anyone pick my shot out?

Matt Charlton
08-10-2006, 14:43
Marrianne isn't the only person on here with a lensbaby ;)

Well there's always a first time I guess. ;)

Your so right about marrianne's work Chris. Hence my change of mind earlier.

Ah-ah....

...but your gonna say its not you either arn't you.

Marcel...my guess is...hmmm, 35. :)

08-10-2006, 20:53
boon= triple statue:nono:

wrong sorry.
so where's the results??

Marcel
08-10-2006, 21:35
Nope I'm not number 35. I was number 36.

If anyone wants to reveal which shot is theirs, then feel free. If there's enough 'revealed' then I'll put the scoresheet up and reveal them all if you like.

Boon, the results thread is here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=11368).

I could spin it out for an age and a half explaining the various chemical formulae involved, but ultimately I couldn't be arsed to google for "cow's milk". And the clear stuff was nothing more than ordinary water from the tap.

I used milk in my image too (the lillies in vase one) along with tinfoil & an old printer paper box (don't ask :p )
I was actually gonna ask about the glass one but the stunning secret ingredients & technique have been revealed (great idea by the way).
Cow image was awesome too Lee
Awesome images overall for this months comp.
