My first entry into my 365 'blog' has been posted up on my Flickr and my Zenfolio sites.

Bringing in the New-Year with a BANG!
Well, its the first day of my '365' and i thougt i'd get it done and dusted early-on :-)
Caitlin, my youngest is covering her ears as she was expecting a loud bang, and in reality it was just a little louder than a standard party popper. After this the kids went berserk, going through a bag and a half of standard party-poppers in 5 minutes (guess who'll have to clean that up in the morning!!)
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!

Happy New Year and good luck with the 365.
Cracking start :D
Agreed excellent start. Best of lucj with the 365!
<--- Pats you in the back. Good luck with your '365 . . . and I must say that picture is providing a cracking start! I love how the colours matches (pink and light blue) and with a nice dark background (apart from that tiny object right to the bottom left hand corner). The whole thing really works very well.

The object is a garden chair. I had the kids stand at the top of the steps to the raised decking in the back, and used flash to keep the background as dark as possible, but didn't notice the chair at the time :bang:
I've got some ideas for a few of the days, its just the other 350 that worry me

Yeah, that's what puts me off trying something like this. I just don't have the experience or skill to even attempt it. Good luck with it. I think you've set a very high standard with the first shot, so it'll be interesting to see if you improve over the year.
great first shot really like that
A fabulous start, I was tucked up in bed when you took that! :D
Best of lick with the 365!
Great start and another thread for me to check out daily!
You do realise though, that you've set the bar really high for yourself with the rest of the year still to go?? I'm sure you'll be up to the challenge.

I thinks its worth trying as its going to force me to think more about my photography and to use my camra more, and that cant be a bad thing can it?

I know, and i suspect that some of the shots may be more 'mundane' captures of every day life for an 8 & 11 year old. The more adventurous shots will probably appear at weekends.

Peek-a-boo!
I had to go to work today, so my mum had the kids for the day (my wife had to work as well). My wife arrived home before me, so i collected the kids, and 'delivered' them home. This shot was Rebecca's idea and it kinda worked, but the DOF was just a bit too thin, but after they heard the shutter fire, thats it - they were off into the house and the moment had gone, and i had to head off out agiain. By the time i got back it was dark and the shot could not be re-done :(
They have both really got into the idea of the whole 365 thing, giving me loads of ideas that i am keeping logged on a wonderfull little iPhone app called YouNote (I think i have around 60-70 ideas at the moment :) )
I love that shot! If they've got that many ideas, they should feel free to throw a few over this way! :D

"I Wish it could be Christmas Everyday"
Well today's the day the Christmas decorations come down (I Know, I Know - 12th night and all that!).
The girls LOVE Christmas, as i expect most children do, and its always sad faces when the decorations have to come down, with cries of "But the house looks bare!"
They both did really well, again, this Christmas despite me promising not to spoil them rotten, but i'm their dad, and its my job to spoil them. They are my reason for getting up in the morning and my reason for going out earning a crust every day. I would spend my last penny to make sure they were happy.
Do you know what my biggest worry in life is? My kids growing up, looking back at their younger years and being dissapointed in their dad, for whatevery reason. So i make it my lifes work to ensure that that does not happen. We go out whenever we can (pictures / eating out / swimming / concerts etc), we have regular holidays, and generally try to have a good time together as a family.
Great capture Chilli your kids look really happy, the illusion of the lights being on without being plugged in is great. Like the little back story to mate well done :)

Spinning The Wheel!
Following on from yesterdays entry, today we went to Manchester as we do every year just after Christmas (We normally go between Christmas and New-Year, but left it a little later this year)
A walk around the shops to treat the girls to something, a ride on the big wheel, and a nice meal at Frankie & Benny's to round it off. We're now back home and about to settle down with the pop-corn (Butterkist toffee popcorn :) ) to watch Mamma-Mia on DVD. A pefrect day if ever there was one.
They are back to school tomorrow, and there social lives are back in full swing from this week too (Swimming / Dancing / After-School clubs etc), so early night for them tonight.
Great thread and pictures so far :)
It will be so valuable when you finish and have a whole year of your girls' lives documented.. when you see someone everyday you don't notice to subtle changes happening, so it will be amazing to see how much they have changed over the year! And it is so lovely to see such open remarks about a fathers love for his daughters! They certainly look very happy indeed :D

These are the Threadgolds - They Swim like Fish!!
Swimming Club starts again tonight, after a long lay-off due to pool refurbishments during November and December. Seems like forever. It also means that i'm back at the Gym tonight as i tend to go while the kids are swimming as its in the same building. Not looking forward to it, but we ALL need to get some exercise and get fit again after the excesses of Christmas.

Whenever its cold outside, and it certainly is at the moment, my two daughters love to wam up their 'Beddy Bears' in the microwave to get them all toasty and chase away the chills.

Friday Night is "Homework Night"
Although they both get bits of homework during the week, the main homework 'bundle' arrives home on Friday Night. They're both really good with homework and tend to get it done ASAP then the rest of the weekend is free.
When Rebecca started 'Big-School' we let her manage her first weeks homework on her terms as she though she knew better! The result was her homework kept getting put off as she had better things to do and come sunday night she had a stack of work to do and was not in the mood to do it.
Needless to say, the following week, our method was back in play :-)
Wow, they look really enthusiastic!

"Nom-Nom-Nom"
Food..... its one thing that brings a family together, as for many families its the only time they get to sit down and relax together.
As a family we try and sit down together and eat 'proper food' as often as we can, but with the clubs and groups that the kids attend it can sometimes be a little difficult and that fustrates me greatly. So i always enjoy weekends when we can sit down have a nice meal together.
Last night we had home-made beef stew and dumplings, and tonight was roast-pork, with all the trimmings (mini sausage, stuffing, veg, roast spuds). Rebecca (my eldest) loves traditional food, and loves yorkshire puds, while Caitlin has a more exotic pallette, and will quite happily eat a curry when we go out.
We always invite my mum around, and most of the time she accepts as she loves my cooking - and who can blame her :D
Lovely to see a family eating together at the table these days. So often it's in shifts in front of the telly. OK, we eat ours in front of the telly, but there's only the two of us and at least we always eat together, :D

Thanks Marc. That's the problem with modern society - everyone is just too busy to enjoy time together sometimes.
We (the wife and I) are as guilty as everyone else sometimes, but weekends is always family time :)
Oops forgot to comment on yesterday's sorry about that, fabulous photo you have a great eye Chilli.

"It Must Be Funny, In A Rich Mans World!"
Money, Money, Money - That just about sums up January for most people. My daughters have a really hectic social life, and attend many clubs and classes, and it soon mounts up. This week, memberships have been due for Swimming (x2), Swimming Lessons, Dancing Club (x2), Brownies, Guides, After School Clubs, Gymnastics.... The list seems endless!
Its left me feeling a litle deflated, but i would not want them to miss out on the things they enjoy :)

The Windows to the Soul
I love eyes, they can say so much more about a person than word could ever do. You can instantly tell if someone is happy, sad, angry, or excited.
Rebecca had been out on a school 'trip' to the local 'Hollywood Bowl' this afternoon with school, and when i collected her I instantly knew that there was something the didn't quite go acording to 'plan' from the look in her eyes. It turned out that one of her friends fell out with her because they were both wearing the same tops! She refused to admit there was something wrong until i told her i could see it in her eyes.
A quick cuddle off her dad and all was well again :)
I will probably revisit the eye-theme later in the 365 for some macro-ish type shots.

"Sweet Dreams" are made of this.
My girls are both dog-tired tonight, and did not want to play ball with some of the ideas i had, so i shot some 'test' pictures for ideas for better days and they got themselve ready for bed.
They've had a busy old week with all the clubs and calsses back in full swing (and paid for ), and i think it's taken its toll on them both. Rebecca spent three hours on her homework tonight, and Caitlin had her Gymnastics class earlier.
I love watching them sleep, they are just so peaceful, instead of their usual hyper-selves. I often lie on the bed with one or the other of them having a natter with them as they are getting ready to fall asleep. I say natter, but if i'm lying with Caitlin i just have to lie there and listen as she 'chunners' on, and on, and on (a bit like me with todays entry )
On a side note, i must say how impressed i am with the D700 and 50mm F1.4 combo in available light - it's just 'magic'.
Aaahh, those are lovely shots and of course they can't get their hands on your cash when they're asleep. :D

This is one of shots where it just jumps out at you, and was only caught as i ALWAYS have a camera about my person (in this case my trusty Olympus 1030SW).
The sun was bright and low this morning when we were out shopping and directly behind us at this point and the shadows just came to life. So, camera out, shot taken, job done :)

Our local council run sports hall has "Family Badminton" on a sunday morning where adults pay £1.50 and kids are free. We normall go swimming on a sunday morning for an hour so we thought we'd also try the badminton first.

On Mondays, my good lady goes off to the Gym and my girls have nothing 'booked-in' (With the exception of Caitlins swimming lessons, but they finish by 5:30), so they always get to stay up a little later than normal and watch a bit of TV.
The simpsons has got to be one of their favourite shows, and it's one of the few shows i can sit with them and watch (i HATE Hannah Montana and similar programs!)
:O How can you not like Hannah Montana?

As for the badders... I'd stick my neck out and suggest a tournament if there's enough interest, and say I'd be happy to arrange... but I'd also stick my neck out further and suggest squash is where I'd do better and possibly match most on here (not meant to be big-headed, but hidden secrets you see :) )

"Gym Class Hero"
iPhone shots only tonight, i'm afraid.
Caitlin is really enjoying her Gym class that she started at the beginning of the year. It helps that she has no fear what-so-ever, and is up for trying anything that is asked of her!
That's really good Chris. You must have two of the most active kids in the country! :D

The 'iGeneration'
Kids are sooo computer literate these days. Rebecca goes to a specialist Maths and Computing school, and they have room upon room of computers. If they go out on a field trip, they take netbooks out with them! Even Caitlin's school has a computer suite and there are less than 200 pupils in total at the school. The most hi-tech we got when i was at school was a new bottle of tipex!
I remember when i first went to secondry school. They had just taken delivery of their first computer - a Research Machines RM380Z. As it had a keyboard it was put in the 'typing' room which was full of old manual typewriters, and they only way i could get access to this wonderment of modern technology was to opt for typing classes. I'm glad i did as it meant i got to play on the RM and get my typing skills up to RSA level III.
They both already had laptops, but i ended up getting them both a Netbook to replace them and stuck OSX86 on there as the apple software really suits this type of machine. Here they are in the middle of an iChat session (even though the are in the same room as each other!). In fact i think Apple are really missing a trick by not releasing a Apple Mackbook Mini!

 I used one of them in college, I programmed a maze game with it in Basic. That was cutting edge technology at the time.

Indeed. In fact we raced ahead technology wise as they upgraded to a 480Z half way through the year! :D

Thanks :)
As for the netbook - Asda have em at £150 at the moment, so it'd be daft not to get one :)
What can that do? Or should I say, what functions are missing?
I can see spotlight, airport, time machine?
Is it difficult to put OSX on there?

It's more a case of what can't it do ;)
Everything from a normal OSX install is there. It's about 90 mins work to get OSX on there including applying the correct Kext's after the install and then updating to 10.5.6.
Kids love it :)
If you need a guide to the install, drop me a PM

"Coughs and Sneezes......"
Poor Caitlin is not feeling too well tonight. She started with another cough and cold at weekend (i say another, but she never really got rid of the last one properly!), so it was emergency Calpol to the rescue and an early night for her.
Aww, she does look sorry for herself. Didn't get her out of posing for the 365 though. :D
