That's an incredible price! The best I've seen so far is £615 on Pixmania.co.uk. Most high street retailers will be selling it for £719.99! Has anyone bought from play.com? Are they any good?

Bought DVDs and games from them before, but never anything high value TBH. They are based in Jersey I think - so not sure what the risks are with/if caught for duty etc.
As a company though I've always found them to be reliable and use them in preference to Amazon these days.
that is a truely stunning price. hope it doesnt go up nearer release date. will have to keep and eye on play's site
I think you will probably get charged VAT and duty though.
I notice their also selling the Nikon D80.

LOL yeah I know what you mean, similar I can also recall when Amazon was losing money and was yet to make a return
Well I've taken the bull by the horns and ordered a 400D from them. I looked into it and I will have to pay the VAT although import duty appears to be free on digital cameras but not film cameras! Nonetheless it's still a fantastic price compared to anywhere else I've seen - £551 inc vat for body only. Due into stock on 11/9. I'll keep you posted as to how the transaction goes.
£599 lens kit with a 1gb card when pre-ordered from jacobs
You can save 2% (about £11) if you go to Play via here (http://www.quidco.com/)
You have to sign up first. Every penny counts. I find it a useful site, tho' sometimes shopping around will save you more than the discounts.

Dont forget that VAT is different from duty.

why will you have to pay VAT extra, isnt play a UK based site and isnt it included in the advertised price?
Play is actually based in Jersey in the Channel Islands which, although part of the British Isles is actually VAT exempt. They pay their own taxes to The States of Jersey (their government). Any goods imported over £50 in value to the mainland are liable for VAT.
Have a look at point 32 here:

If they are really kind and mark the good as a gift for customs clearance then I'll get away without having to pay the VAT! Doubt it'll happen though. Nonetheless, even with the vat it's still a good price
Thought Id let people know - I have a 400D on pre-order from Play too, and when I read the earlier post about added VAT I thought Id give them a ring.
You`ll be relieved to hear that the price on the site (£479.99 for the body) is ALL you will pay.
There are no additional charges. I thought this would be the case as Play would normally state there would be import duty to pay if there was. They mention this on their International DVD site - some DVD`s carry a surplus charge on delivery for some reason.
Anyway - its definately out this Friday ( apparently ), and they may even get stock a few days prior to release so any pre-orders should arrive Friday. The camera was originally listed at £469.99, and for some reason it went up £10 and they changed the release date from today ( 11th ) to Friday.
Luckily I had preordered mine while it was still £469.99, and thats the price I`ll be paying.

See you go and tell me things like that and I want to go out and buy them. It would stop the fighting between my husband and I over the camera.
