Ok then. I'm starting again. I'm in a good mood right now so I expect there won't be an entry tomorrow when I'm moody and depressed. For those that don't know their history, shame on you, I tried once before (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=68456). People liked my processing style but I decided it wasn't for me since my processing wasn't my own. Something this personal should be my own through and through. I'm hoping to be as open as Marcel has been, but there is a danger in that. If anyone has seen Peep Show then you'll understand what its like to be in my head :D

I hear the internet is on computers now. Look ma. I'm on the internet! Plans for this 365 as stated. Document my life. Whatever that means. I'll tackle the bad stuff as it comes, which annoyingly is more often than it should be.
always nice to start with a pic of yourself, here's hoping you make it to 365 :)
Good for you :)
Don't give up on it.. even if you don't feel like doing it, there is some strange pleasure to be taken from forcing yourself to do something and being able to look back at it afterwards.
I'm sure the end result will be worth the effort.. and it might even be fun :D
Thanks :) I really hope so too.
pete this is a hell of a task ...
full credit for trying it and if youget anywhere near all way i will drive up to the wirrel and buy you a pint.......

Glad to see you made your mind up Pete. I'm only day 27 on mine now, but enjoying it a lot. I think 365 can mean different things to different people. Mine is literally acting as a diary for this year, I don't have the desire to have a specific continuous 'style' to it (I don't have one anyhow!), just whatever feels good on the day. In turn maybe I'll be able to see progression in my post processing and shooting as a bi-product :)
So is it Zorro or the Hamburglar?!
Hopefully this will fill by hole left by Marcels!
Nice shot Pete. :D
I'm thinking like mthrembo, my 365 is just what takes my fancy at the time :D
JFDI Pete, for yourself, you know you have to. great start btw ;)
Thanks for the support guys :) I've got my photoblog for the other sort of whatever takes my fancy sorta thing. As long as its related to the local area for the most part. I want this to really mean something to me. Maybe by doing some more fun portraits to be less shy, less afraid of what people think of me. Maybe by opening up a bit more so people see why I can be a villain :) Who knows. I just hope that I stick with it.
Enjoy it mate, whatever it brings you.
Man the guns! It's alive!

Good Stuff Pete, good luck
Hope you keep this one up mate as love your photos. Shouldn't be too hard for you as you post almost daily on Vanilla Days so its not like its something you aren't used to.
Sorry Pete. When I posted earlier in the thread I had got to it via a link from another one and didn't twig that this was the start of a 365. Good luck with it mate and I will be following it with a lot of interest.

True. I think the problem last year was that I was doing 3 365's essentially. I got stressed, missed some days and threw it in. Not sure how I'm going to cope this year though as I hope to be busier :) 2 365s to do.

Wow, that's intense!

I can see all the ladies subscribing to this!!!

Good luck Pete. Looking forward to seeing this progress.
On the strength of your first 2 shots I can see a book in this to rival your "Port of Culture" Pete, keep 'em coming.
Haha. Not sure anyone would buy a book about me, especially with the first shot as the front cover :p Still thinking about todays. No ideas really and I'm busy working on the HDR book so it might just be a really uncreative photo of books or something.
I don't think you have to be creative every day for your 365 to work at a personal level, who better than you knows that life is a rollercoaster with ups and downs, and also I don't believe for a minute that you'll be afraid of posting images of the more mundane side for fear of what people would think.;)
Go with what you have and not with what you think people want, not being bossy or anything, I'm sure you know what you want from this exercise.:p
Yer I know what you mean. If I get time I'll be creative, if not its a photo of books with nice depth of field :D

I've spent most of the day looking at words. Tomorrow I hit the enemy toast and finish the HDR book. The final chapter, portraits. I imagine theres a fair few hoops to jump through after that though but the real work will be done. Oh and yes I am wearing WW1 fighter pilot goggles.

Today has been one of those days. I finally finished my part of the HDR guide book. It was a weight off. Tomorrow I can just do whatever and enjoy it. Annoyingly the day was somewhat spoilt by the petty forum bitching over HDR. That same nonsense day in day out. It really gets to me. I've spent 3 to 4 months writing this huge book, putting as much as I can think of into it and there is a part of me that thinks its just going to bring more trouble my way.
I got tired of all the fighting in web design. I was a strong believer in CSS and adhering to W3C standards. Annoyingly the majority of the web aren't. Its hard work trying to convince people and spending your time fighting with them day in day out on forums really gets me down. I enjoyed a break from that with photography. However it seems that I've now found the most controversial aspect of modern day photography and put myself right in the thick of it.
Most days its fine. I can take the heat and dish it out. Annoyingly today has been stressful. I've been trying to get this last chapter done for a while and its been hard. I firmly believe in what I'm doing and the merits of HDR, but its just very hard trying to get it to work on some subjects. I needed it work to show people just what can be done. As George McFly used to say "If you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything." I knew it would work and it does. I'm glad the chapter is in the book. Its just when you're trying to write and also fight with people online its stressful and depressing. "What am I doing? I can't do this? Jesus christ this is impossible." Its like dominoes. It only takes one little thing and a chain reaction starts. Only takes one little thing for me to get very depressed at the wrong time. I'm left fighting that, fighting deadlines and fighting with people.
At the end of the day the book is going to be fantastic. For now I can literally wash my hands of it until the editing process kicks in. Its been a tough day. This entry nearly wasn't to be. I was ready to throw in the towel. "Fk it. I'm really not in the mood for photos." Must thank my friends who helped me get back on track :)
i think the image displays your mood well Pete and i am really glad we managed to talk you into doing it :)
keep it up

Nice tats, Pete.
But hold up. And big yourself up. Magnificent effort. I seem to remember a post from you a while ago when you were just starting the HDR book and the publisher knocked you back. So, you've beaten that one for a start.
I haven't seen the forum bitching about HDR today (if its on here - not bothered anyway - it goes on). Carry on taking the heat and dishing it out for all its worth.
I look forward to the book. Enjoy the freedom that the completion of a big piece of work brings - I know how it feels. Just enjoy.

I was approached nearly a year ago, started work but ultimately I'm not *that* good a writer. Which is fine. I'm a photographer. Sure it would be nice to done it all on my own but the guy I've been working with is fantastic and has been really helpful with the whole thing. I couldn't have done it without him and now here we are.
Pete, I have to agree with Toothie and mobilevirgin... Stick with your convictions and after completing such a massive task just chill, take a step back and appreciate what you've accomplished. I for one take a look at your HDR work all the time and reference your guide on vanilladays to help with my own work. HDR will always have its doubters but I believe your work in this area stands on the shoulders of most of the other stuff I've seen on the net. (Num #1 on google.co.uk). Buying a book written by someone I've known for quite a while and personally knowing a pioneer as far as I'm concerned in this field of photography I'm chuffed for you. Well Done !! :)

to be fair, if you like hdr keep doing it, and perhaps if the arguments over it get you down, just make the one comment in the thread and leave it at that. everyone has likes and dislikes, and HDR seems to be the marmite of the photography world.

Arguments and bitching. :| It's everywhere, no matter how much we try to avoid or how level or reasonable we try to be, sometimes we will find ourselves slap dab in the middle of it and it will never change.
Arguments and fights can erode my soul, especially when trying to 'debate' or 'discuss' elements that seem to be alien to the other parties.
Regardless of benefit, reason and logic can be less effective when fear of the unknown is concerned.
There also seems to be a lot more blind prejudice currently, especially with new technologies and technique.
It's seemingly difficult for some to allow a difference of belief, thought, method or practice.
Hard opinions and pride are built on unstable foundations or an absence of knowledge, it appears to be the primary resort for those who can't appreciate anything outside the realms of their own appreciation, aspiring to adopt expert opinions on topics that they don't fully understand or comprehend, demanding that these opinions be heard, respected and ultimately believe will make a difference or cause change for the 'better'.
It can be infuriating, exhausting and over powering.

Thanks :) When I tried to do it last year friends told me that its like a superhero thing. The best superheros are the ones who struggle against odds to be superheros, instead of like Superman who simply is super. Batman for example, especially in the newer films. Just a guy trying his best to make a difference. Not that I'm a superhero or anything :suspect: but apparently people get or understand your more when they see that you're not this amazing godlike HDR guy who makes photos taken with cans of coke into gold (not that I am. You "seem" to be in a better mood today! Hope all is well :)
Missed a few days of this with one thing and another, but good to see you kept at it even on a really bad day. Don't let the HDR debates get you down, if you are not in the mood for giving as good as getting, then walk away, it really isn't worth the stress levels, especially if more important things are causing stress anyway, like the book. Don't worry, even if you step away and miss an argument, there will be another one along shortly ;)
You are doing a great job with this so far Pete, i too hope you complete it as i enjoyed the last one too. Last photo really does convey the mood and stress very well in my opinion and shows a real grittyness.

One week down. 51 left. Simple image tonight. Its been a simple day. Had a milkshake from Shakeabout in L1, wandered round with sister and nephew.
Came home and caught up with Gundam 00. Really fantastic Gundam series, totally beats Gundam Seed. I found that far too annoying as the main character spent most of the series crying, whining about the evils of war and not wanting to fight. Screw that. Its Gundam. I wanna see mechs fighting not kids crying. Thankfully Gundam 00 delivers in spades. Really great, and in HD too. The model featured is from Gundam Wing. I need to get something from 00 some day.
I'm not going to even pretend to know who or what Gundam is. An unusual keyboard in the background BTW.
Hope you've had a better day today Pete.
Its Anime. Japanese animation. The keyboard is the standard Mac keyboard. A really nice one.

After this I went to cover the street events and its like day time at ISO6400. So clean, so much light. Perfect exposures. I <3 this camera.
This entry sponsored by Gitzo. Still gotta do todays.

Just caught up with this thread - really great stuff Pete! i LOVE the 'you hiding from work' one! i'm glad you decided to do a 365 again :) i know there's a lot of bitching and nit-picking that goes on at times but try not too take it all too personally, some people just seem to like stirring things up . you have a really great talent and you should just concentrate on demonstrating it as you are with threads like these :D
Thanks :) Managing to do it so far but I'm yet to hit the bad times...

So yer, feeling a bit "emo" lately with things. Far too much bitching going on in certain places of the web. Too many people looking to argue about stupid things. Too many people doing the pick holes in successful person thing. Its been a long few days with it all but things like this remind me that in some ways its worth it. Center page spread in todays Daily Post.

Ta :) Having far too many empty days and I dunno what to do today. Problem with being freelance is that there's no reason to go out, no outside daily contact. Rubbish weather for photos. Forcing myself to clean which really isn't a hugely interesting photo. So its either a photo of an attempted clean desk or me looking emo again :/
hmmmm. there must be *something* on your desk you can take a photo of. Coke cans perhaps?? ;) No matter what you choose I'm sure you'd make it look Turner Prize worthy!
Problem with being freelance is that there's no reason to go out,
I'd have thought being freelance gives you every reason to go out?
hmmmm. there must be *something* on your desk you can take a photo of. Coke cans perhaps?? ;) No matter what you choose I'm sure you'd make it look Turner Prize worthy!
Maybe. I was tempted to photograph a bottle of Bleach because its Wednesday and my weekly dose of Bleach comes out. Its an anime show I like. I'll find something.
I'd have thought being freelance gives you every reason to go out?
Technically it gives me no reason to go out. It gives me the luxury of being able to go out when I want though. But I'm broke and going to Liverpool will cost me around £10.
Being freelance means if you cant be bothered going out you don't have to. That can be a real problem with some people, me included when someday's you just really cant be bothered doing anything.
Exactly. Then you realise its been 4 days since you went out.
...and the milk has started its own colony in your fridge?

Wednesday. The highlight of my recent Wednesdays is Bleach. Its a Japanese anime series about a school kid who takes the powers of a Shinigami (Death God). From then on the story unfolds. Its your typical anime. New threats come along, people get stronger, defeat bad guys, new threats. Its really entertaining with classic anime humour thrown in. Random chibi moments, breaking the 4th wall, etc. The guy here is Ichigo Kurasaki, the hero. He's holding his Zanpaktu, which is a sort of self aware sword. I need to get a new figure because theres this form, his Bankai form and his Hollow transformation form too. If you're not into anime you'll think I'm watching kids cartoons. If you are into anime you'll get my enthusiasm.

Good day. Got some work done. Setup my external monitor to act as a digital photo frame. its an odd thing and some may say its a waste of a display but having all your favourite photos pop up at 15'' size is nice to see. In the afternoon I went to visit HMS Ark Royal. I wasn't really planning on getting a lot of photos but I got some nice ones on the press tour. Nice cuppa too. After I bumped into some mates, had my soul stolen by their camera and wandered off to my car via this bridge. A good day. Nice to chat to real people, have a laugh and spend time away from the computer.
Glad you had a good day Pete.

Just a quick shot as I edit the days photos. Splashed out on a new shutter release button for my D700. £55 :/ Very annoying but it does the job. Got some long exposures at Ark Royal. Anime in the background is this weeks Bleach. Kenpachi going to town on an Arrancar.

I like it, I saw your Ark Royal shot on your blog, its a fantastic shot but so similar to your last one- long exposure, same position with a B&W conversion. Ive never been to Liverpool so I don't know the way the docks work but maybe shoot it in the day or a close up? You've probably done those thing loads before but I only started following your blog a few months ago.
EDIT: Ive just seen the new colour one on there, thats what im talking about, different coluors and further away. Good job.

Its a remote cord you use to get shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds without having to hold your finger on the shutter.
It is very close to it. As I said in the blog I'm trying to find a new way of shooting it because it came in last year. Its sister ship came in too. I've done in to death because I was comissioned to do so. Been on board them all, exclusive shots and such. I wanted to get a ferry trip but the weather is rubbish for it. So I'm trying to perfect the long exposure shot because thats about the best light of the day. No good sunsets. Grey overcast days with little detail in the clouds.

It didn't break. Its badly designed.

So it points inwards instead of outwards. It pushes the lens unlock button. Cheap £5 job. Decided it wasn't worth buying 10 of them off ebay to find one that went on the right way so I bought the official from Calumet.

Just edited my last post, just seen the colour version. Its from further away which is nice and its done slightly earlier so brighter image. I suppose there is only so many ways you can do the same thing though.
Indeed. The sun goes around behind the ship so this is the best angle. You've either got the back end or front end. I got 915 shots when she first came in last year and 487 of her sister ship.
I really fracked up the numbers so I'm back to #13.

Meh. How do you write about depression without sounding like a bit of a whiney woe is me emo type? How do you get the message across to people that just don't get it? The past week has been really meh. There are good moments with friends. I have a laugh, enjoy things but after I'm dead. Its been a hard week with all the fighting and negative comments on forums. Sure there aren't a great deal of them but for me 1 negative comment at the wrong time outways everything I've ever done. Its stupid. Its annoying. Its just the way I am and I have to wait it out before I get back to work. Someone will say something bad and it'll get to me, and then I'll recall everything bad this week and it all gets to me. Then I think about everything else thats bad and that gets to me. Its dominoes. I can flip like a switch and I'm gone. I have no way back. I don't just cheer up and while I appreciate everyones nice comments all I can do is wait. Its not just feeling down. Its feeling numb, empty, pointless, worthless, rubbish, broken. Thing is, this isn't even a bad day.

Oh Pete. I have friends who suffer from depression and describe it like this....it really really sucks that there is nothing really that can be said or done to help snap you out of it...and i imagine that words really dont seem to mean much when u are feeling like so, so i dont want to be condescending and say anything cheesy. Except you are not worthless, rubbish, broken or any of the above and i hope that you feel better soon and i'm sorry that i cant help :( *hug*

Makes no odds I know, but chin up fella.
For every one that has a pop out of petty jealousy, there are three dozen who look, read, and admire your work and get inspired by it to do better themselves. You have good days and you have bad days but, outside of that, you are an inspiration to many EVERY day, so don't ever forget that.
As you said, it's not a case of 'get over it' because you can't, but with the friends you have here and the people you inspire, you can draw on that to help make sure there are more good days than bad.
Keep going mate, we'll still be here
It may be like kissing better a broken leg but, with lots of 'kisses' from those who care, the healing process can be a less painful and lonely journey.

I think if a person's lifestyle is largely bias towards spending time alone then it's very easy to get caught in a downward spiral with no one to help stop the slide especially if they're already susceptible to feeling a bit down. I know for some people, talking things through helps to put things back into perspective. That's were a good dose of real human interaction with friends and family can help.
I've spent a lot of time working on my own, being the one who has to drive things forward or else things don't happen. Procrastination and wallowing are great productivity killers.
Hope you've got some support to fall back on, Pete.

Pete, I suffered from depression a few years ago when I went through a bad time, without going in too deep what actually helped me was talking to a councellor (people say they are crap but it worked for me) and also when they doubled my dose of anti-depressants.
"Depression" the term is used far to easily for my liking, its like that illness (can't remember the name) where kids get angry and out of control easily, they say their ill where most of the time its bad parenting or just the kids. However..... from the way you have described how it makes sounds like you are 100% suffering from depression.
There are lots and lots of different forms of depression but you sound like me, its good to talk about it and its beyond fustrating when nothing helps but time will help and go to the doctors mate.
Keep your head up!
Luke
Agree with Luke 100%. Counselling is great, you just have to be open to it. I was wary at first but it's a great opportunity to talk through absolutely anything with someone impartial. Medication has helped too, but whilst it helps stop the real downers, it also stifles the ups too. I've just reduced mine to low and hoping to give it a go off them soon, having depended on them for the last three years!
You've got immense talent Pete, I think you're understanding that now rather than questioning yourself as much as you used to all those years ago. But I can appreciate the need for a pat on the back from others to make things seem worthwhile. You have no need to worry about that. And whilst there may be those who don't get your work, wouldn't it be dull if everyone liked everything you did?
your picture portrays your mood well, hope you have a better day today

Hope you've got some support to fall back on, Pete.
I have my irc client on all day chatting to the TP members, live with my folks as they're not well, but its not quite the same as years ago when my mates still lived 5 mins away. Left the country now for bigger n better things. Miss those days.

I certainly have put it off for many years. I'm not depressed, I can't be cos I don't feel sad and I have nothing to be sad about. But thats just it. Its completely illogical and theres no real reason for it. Wrong thing, wrong time and I'm down. Consistent wrong things during this time and I don't get up. I've been out with mates when this kicks in and I've lost friends due to it. Everything is so completely utterly pointless but they don't get it. Just think I'm moody and want nothing to do with that. Life is fun :D
As for forms I'm fairly sure its bipolar. Mates have said to me before now that its like theres two of me and they dunno which they'll get. Love the ups though. *bang* GO! Pics pics pics pics pics WEEEEEEEE!!!!

Most of the time I'm able to shrug off silly people or respond sarcastically just to get back at them for making such stupid comments :) Trying to limit that though because to the casual observer I just look like a sarcastic cock as I'm sure many on TP already know ;) Without that way of venting, so to speak, its just like "Whats the point?" Ah well. Today is a different day and I'm in a better mood so frack em :D

I think the worst offender is the way people see HDR as something outside of normal photography. It think its a bit dangerous to do so. HDR is no different to RAW. Its a way of getting more detail out of your photos. HDR, B&W, colour, lomo, are all ways of getting the end result. Its all photography. The sooner people simply accept it as a photographic technique and move on the better. If you don't, well I have a gun. I will end you.
Good to see you smiling Pete (even if it is rather maniacal! :D) and glad you're feeling better.
As for HDR, don't really like it myself, but I'd defend to the death your right to use it! ;)
Pete you have a great smile you should do it more often :D

Two photos of you smiling in one week??! Be careful Pete, your reputation is at stake :p
Love that one though, it shows your silly side :D
As for I certainly have put it off for many years. I'm not depressed, I can't be cos I don't feel sad and I have nothing to be sad about. But thats just it. Its completely illogical and theres no real reason for it.
This is my take on that:
Quite often the problem is that people don't have anything specific to be depressed about but they feel sad and low and like crying all the time and sometimes they don't - for apparently no reason.
Generally it's because you cope. And then sometimes, when you let your guard down, it all hits you right between the eyes. Its like when you're hungry but you don't know what to eat because nothing is what you want.
Sometimes there is nothing tangible wrong - nothing you can put your finger but something just isn't right and it can affect you in so many different ways. A lot of dealing with depression is about trying to figure out what is wrong so that you can deal with the source. Like sometimes you have a sore neck because a lower back muscle is strained, you might be irritable and angry for no apparent reason, but there is something causing it. It's trying to identify what *that something* is that's the problem because half the time, you don't know. Imagine knowing that you have nothing to be depressed about but crying because you feel so rubbish and have no idea why. To me, that's even scarier than being depressed or miserable because something bad has happened, at least you know why you're feeling that way.
Keep your chin up chick, you know where I am and that I understand.

Yer thats really it. I get in that mood and negative things that I should be able to take, as I've been doing this for 5 years, hit me harder than they should. Its not really them, its just depression. Its stupid and pointless.
now that is a scary face!!
Hopefully those bad hdr photographers out there will fear it :p
your eyes look funky
Thank you very much!!! eBay, decent price.

SNOW! We got some snow. Totally randomly. Edinburger got a blizzard and then so did we. Only about 30 mins of it but really thick stuff. The good kind. Times like this that I wish I lived 5 minutes from Liverpool city center instead of 30. I wanna be there on Bold Street getting the action shots. Also the 14-24 really isn't a snow lens. Its covered instantly due to the front of the lens. I tried smiling but I felt a little silly standing outside my house trying for a snowy self portrait.
Pete i LOVE this snow one!!!! You look so cute!! Hehe the one before scares me a bit though!!
I want some snow :(
nice title hanc :)
Haha that wasn't my doing!! :p
Great stuff Pete :D i want snow :(
Excellent stuff Pete. No snow here though.

Nice one Pete
And its well heavy snow here and sticking too :woot:
Snow, great! Except we never seem to get it on the shores of the Ribble :( Interesting stuff about your ups and downs too, something I can relate to. A well-timed compliment can make such a difference, unfortunately the same can also be said about a negative view of ones work

Obama's inauguration in Liverpool. I felt it was an important event for the world, not just America. I wanted to document it in some way and there was a party in Toxteth so I went along. It was packed out and a great thing to document. So much support for the guy.

Eugh taxes. Not doing well on the organisational side of freelancing. So I've lost 2 months statements. Theres just too much junk in my room. My life, my work, my rest. All in one room. There are no options until I can move out. Crappy paperwork.
It's amazing how Obama's election victory has gripped people in this country more than I've ever seen before. Let's hope this is a new dawn.
Bummer about the paperwork, always a chore.

Tax doesn't have to be taxing. But it is.
^^ LOL That's EXACTLY what I said to Matt the other day ;D
I kept getting the stupid tax return ads via Spotify while working on it. I wanted to hit that damn woman for telling me to do it. I was!
Is that aperture Pete?
Do you like it?
Its Lightroom 2.2. I love it. Use it more than anything.
Doing well with this Pete, enjoying getting an incite into the word of a pro photog. Interesting to see all the challenges you come up against that you dont necassarily think about like for example the tax returns.
Keep it up buddy!
Thanks :) Ok got a few shots to put up hopefully tomorrow.

First official meeting of the Liverpool Flickr group, ever. As far as I know the group hasn't really met or anything, which is a shame. There is a specific group for Liverpool meets but the two seem very detached. I was browsing the Manchester group and its huge. Lots of disucssions, photos from big meets and such. It reminded me of the fun I had in Toronto one weekend. I was in a totally different country but I was a photographer from Flickr so I was one of them. Awesome weekend. Surely we can do that in Liverpool? We've had #barcamp here and plenty of social media types, photography types. I hope this is the start of more.

Early this morning, literally 4 minutes after 12am I was trying for star trails. I've been commissioned to take the shot so it needs to be done. Its easy too. Setup camera, push shutter and sit in car for an hour. Annoyingly by the time I had done this test shot the cloud you can see in the bottom right had covered the sky. Seems like a very good location for it though. 5 minutes away, dark enough. Just need another good night. Kinda wanna try more of them. Its a whole area of photography I haven't explore and well it can be absolutely stunning.
I really love that last shot, it's a stunner :)

Liverpool's Twestival (http://liverpool.twestival.com/) has potential for interesting things.
It does and I'm going but its more for anyone on Twitter. I only spent 2 days with these guys in Toronto but there was a definite sense of a community that in some ways I've felt has been missing since I got back, 3 years ago.
Glad to see your back Pete - the stars shot is stunning :)

A foggy drive home after an enjoyable night out at the Redeye meet. There was an interesting slideshow on climate change that focused on anything but the polar ice caps. The great thing about Redeye and these events is that it reminds me that photography isn't landscapes, flowers, kittens, portraits. Photography is capturing light. You just have to know what the light is you want to capture.

The Arena art auction at Leaf Tea Shop. Very packed out, which took me by surprise. Good event and the auctioneer is brilliant. Although it turns out he hated La Machine because he didn't get to see it. The print I auctioned was of La Machine. Doh.

Edward Chambre-Hardman's hat. This is his hat! Haha I love it. At his exhibition at Victoria Gallery they had his frickin hat! As if his hat was as important as the camera he used. Haha. I don't want to sound egotistical at all but he is basically me. I'm not just saying that to big myself up either because Metro called me the modern day Chambre-Hardman last year which was mind blowing. But even before that I could really see alot of myself in the man.
I visited his house on Rodney Street, which everyone should do, and it was eye opening. The guy never threw anything away. Its a small thing but I never do that either. He was a complete perfectionist. He would spend hours working on one photo in the darkroom. He was a master at "Photoshop" or darkroom technology back in the day. He was brilliant at black and white photography. I wish I could remember his quote about why black and white works so well. Its so similar to what I say. I just love his work. The way he's captured the city during a time I would have loved to have lived in.
He lived near me at one point in Barnston. He wore a hat. He didn't throw anything away. He was a strong believer in black and white. He tried to convey what *he* saw to the viewer. He spent his time photographing people n places in Liverpool.
I love that they kept his hat.

Hmmm... I read that you've been busy with your HDR guide, hope it's going well... but these shots are not in the same league as your usual shots, Pete. Did you take some of 'em with your iPhone?
I love the D700 shot, thats super (cos I want one!!), but horsey snapshots, streelamps, roads, drain covers... not your usual superb standard Pete. I find this really weird though, as the snow shots especially on your vanilladays site are awesome and are a class above some of these.
Good to see you back with an update though.
This project isn't about me taking amazing photos every single day. I'm not using it as a means to take technically better photos. Its simply about documenting a year in my life. So if that means I have 30 seconds in the day to take a shot and the only camera I have is an iPhone I'll do it as best as I can. If I have an hour with the d700 I'll do the best I can. Another thing is that I specifically take photos for my blog which are seperate from here. The photos for the blog are of Liverpool and my way of documenting it. I don't want to cross post because one is about Liverpool and one is about me.
