What do you think C & C welcome
chivers67
10-01-2009, 17:38
I quite like it but personally think it might be better in B&W so the counter top colour doesn't detract from the steel.
Think you might need to remove a few spots to make the image a little more effective

Yes I think I will try it in B&W....as for the dirty spots...damn that dishwasher:bang:

Good original idea nice to see :)

Great take on the idea :clap:, and as for the dishwasher spots, unfortunately for us, the sensor sees everything :naughty:
Good luck for the next 51

Good idea, definately agree with the bw idea to lose the worktop a bit. Good luck, I'm already fretting about History and what I can do that's original.

Nicely done, that's worked really well. Good luck for History and the remaining 51

Definitely the B&W version for me. The light catching the end of the fork prongs is excellent - the whole image jumps out and has a 3-dimensional look about it. What a great start. Look forward to seeing your History pic. :)

We have so much history here in Plymouth I didn't know where to start:
Decided on something I rememberd seeing from this site a while back, so I can't take credit for the original idea.
The clock tower is a famous local land mark known as Derry's Clock and the large building to the right was the Wiltshire & Dorset bank.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/DerrysClock1902.jpg
Photo taken 1902.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/DerrysClock2009.jpg
The dark building to the left is now the back of Theatre Royal and the large building to the right is a pub...yes you guessed it it's called the Bank
Things I've Learnt:
1. You can't always stand in the foot steps of the photographer from 107 years ago.
2. Lining up the same angle is not easy.
3. I was recording history just the same as the unknown photographer had all that time ago. So the next time I think that's just not worth bothering with....give it a second look because things change and you just might regret it one day.

An eloquent example of history! I like the idea and execution and your 3rd point is extremely well made!
What looks ordinary today might just look extraordinary in 20, 50, 100 years time!

really nice idea. shows how thing change over time.
That clock is the mark they used to take the mileage from to mark on the roadsigns. So when it says 14 miles to Plymouth it actually means 14 miles to Derry's clock!
Great start to the year - love the knifes and forks and the idea for history - nice to seee how things change
jeangenie
18-01-2009, 22:34
I love this 'then and now' idea. Compared with many places, the changes are comparatively few. What struck me immediately (no pun intended) was the time yours was taken - excellent positioning of the clock's hands.
A great interpretation of History - and in 100 years' time somebody might be adding another photo and commenting on how things have changed since 2009. :)

Well I've had a great week taking lots of photo's of all sorts of subjects...

So decided on something my wife is always going on about to me...and what I need to do everytime we shop...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/NutritionalValues.jpg
Things I've Learnt this week
1. Sometime you don't need to go out in the rain and cold...just look around the house.
2. It's been good spending so much time and getting acquainted with my camera again.
3. I'm having more fun with my camera than in the last 18 months.
Love the history shot, that's brilliant. It looks pretty close to where the original was shot. I like what you've done for learning and it's clear what your wife is looking for (I get the same thing ;) ). I can't work out what you did though, very clever.

24-01-2009, 16:39
Funnily enough Marcus a similar idea flittered through my head earlier in the week but you've done a much better job on it than I could have :)
I love the composition and how you've emphasised the key information :)
And the B&W works for me (it always does :))
And I love your 3 points especially #3 - That what its all about :D

24-01-2009, 16:47

really like the way you've done that! Very clever stuff. Completely agree with the points you made too. I've been loving doing this so far and just the kick in my bum I needed to pick up the camera more! Can't say I'm looking forward to next weeks though, it's a bit of a stinker and I'm feeling completely inspiration free on this one...

Great shot, the blurring in PP is very well done and looks very natural. The bits you have sharp do look a little over sharpened although this could be because they are right next to the blurred bits . First of all I'm a little embarrassed to be posting this picture...:(
This has turned out to be the most difficult subject for me...:help:
I gave it some thought a few days ago and was going to do somethings with eggs. Then I saw the superb shot that Dark Star did  so decided to stay away from the egg idea.:shake:
Well as indefensible as it is, the shot doe's contain the book H.M.S Surprise by patrick O'Brian...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/JacksonreadingHMSSurprise.jpg
Things I've Learnt this week
1. This 52 is going to be a lot harder than I thought.
2. DON'T look at anyone else's on here until you finished you idea.
3. Panicking don't help...
Dark Star
31-01-2009, 20:21
I wouldn't be embarrassed Marcus :) It made me smile - big time :)
Its different, I'll give it that :D Sorry that I beat you to the egg :(
But its a different and surprising picture and I assume the glasses are photshopped on!
Neat job :) And if I'm wrong thats one patient cat you have :D
This made me lol, nothing to be ashamed of there.
At the end of the day we only want out pictures to provoke some sort of emotional reaction.
On to the next one.....
jeangenie
31-01-2009, 22:57
I'd be pleased, not embarrassed, if I'd thought of this one. It made me smile. The cat's expression is pricelss - you can alsmost see the speech bubble: (in 'professorial' voice) "Yes, it's an interesting read, historically accurate and with good cross-referencing" :D
I totally agree with your lessons learned - especially not looking at other people's before you've at least decided on your own shot. Panic's ok when all else fails.
I hope Week 5 causes less stress for both of us. :)

That really made me chuckle and sent my imagination into overdrive. I could imagine sneaking downstairs at night and opening the living room door to find a cat wearing glasses reading a book and saying "well what did you think I did at night when you were all in bed"!
I agree about not looking at others postings until you have your own sorted out. I found it made it much more difficult to come up with ideas of my own and also did induce panic.
Excellent stuff on learning and surprise, really like the way the key info stands out, and your cat is fantastic
Great shot, nothing to be embarrassed about there. It's been well done, and works very well, made me chuckle. I', adopting the same policy, not looking at any of the current weeks shots till I've done mine.
Loving the Surprise shot Spartacus, great capture and great interpretation :clap:
That brightened up a somewhat grey day, thank you. Really good, I like this.
I'm the other way from people, I like to look at everyone's shots to get inspiration, normally I see what people have done and it eliminates that type of idea from my head. But then I'm just weird

First of all many thanks to all the people who take the time to comment on my 52 Week project.
As for Week 4 Surprise, thank you for your kind response. I was getting desperate which is why I cat knapped my nighbours cat (Jackson) for the photo shoot. (He was well rewarded)
At the moment I'm at what I call joining a new Gym mentality, you know you start with good intentions, but miss a week and before you know it your not bothering anymore with excuses of one thing or another. But I need to do this or the camera sits back in the bag and won't get the use it deserves.
Rant over (sorry)
This week has been fun again, did lots of stuff but ended up with this one. There was a B&W copy, but I think this looks better.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/colourone1.jpg
Things I learnt this week
1. It's good to have a difficult subjet because you really enjoy a easy one.
2. Have a play with B&W, but don't think everything looks good just because it takes you back to your old darkroom days.
3. Keep on good terms with the cat next door, he may be required to get you out of a tricky situation.
Now that is great. Wonderful clear definition in the Knights, with the Kings (??) oof, works really well, black and white, opposing sides, different directions, that's a good three opposites, well interpreted and fits the theme brilliantly.

Great idea for "Opposites" and executed very well. Lovely DOF and the OOF pieces in the background add extra interest. Glad you opted for the colour version too... oh and cracking composition.
I like!
Well done :clap::clap::clap:
This is a very good shot. I love the clarity, the idea and the positioning of the chess pieces.
I agree with you that black and white, even if it fits the theme is not for everything and I think you were absolutely right in this case to keep it in colour.
10/10
nicely lit and you've got the pieces pin sharp! That's some pretty spectacularly shallow DoF!! Really nice idea
Really nice image and the shallow depth of field works brilliantly, the position of the two OOF Kings are also perfectly placing each of the knights on the third completes the image!
My favourite image of this round!
SimonTALM
09-02-2009, 11:31
Surpise - very Harry Potter, I like it  I think you win the prize for the person who moved so far away from the box they could only just see it  Certainly not a prize winning artistic shot but an image I could easily expect to see on a funny email a few years in the future, or on the front of a Funny Birthday Card.
Opposites - I really like this image, you have the DoF perfect and I think you chose well to keep the image in colour (I'm sure B&W would not look 1/2 as good). As others have said the pieces in the background lift this image and make it work
What a cracking shot for Opposites :clap: Great composition, great clarity on the knights, fantastic DoF, and definitely works in colour. You just keep getting better - where's it all going to end :D

Well here we are again, is it me or doe’s the weeks seem to fly by now we got projects to do...
You could be forgiven for thinking what’s Special about this coin. Well it was given to me by a lovely and much missed auntie when I was a boy. For those that are lucky enough not to recognise it, it is a Shilling or 5p today. Well worth having in my day. At the time I so wanted to spend it on a Matchbox toy car. But like all parents around the world you need to save it for a rainy day. So it was taken away for my own good and given back much later when the urge was gone.
But as always with something special it’s the detail and on this occasion it’s the date, the very year I was born. Now the polite among you will not bother working out my age. But the rest of you...you didn’t think I got to look like this over night did you!
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/MySpecialShilling.jpg
Things I’ve Learnt this week
1. Going through your old collections off stuff brings back some lovely memories.
2. Life is speeding by at a rate of knots and you forget sometimes to sit back and enjoy the moment.
3. Taking a photo of a coin to make it look interesting is a tough one.
Dark Star
13-02-2009, 16:02
Excellent shot, great light and textures and to think you've held onto that for sooo long!
Now that is special! The detail is great and that surface just really complements the image!

I love the texture of this shot and the contrast between the coin and the weave, how did you light it? I looks as if there is low angle light from the top (there is a feint shadow on the bottom of the coin).

14-02-2009, 16:25
I can only agree with all the previous comments. It's an excellent shot, the background texture provides as good contrast and it's a lovely story. And to think you could have spent it on a matchbox toy!:clap:

I did do other crowds photos but this was more fun for me.
Well I’ve had a great time playing around this week...and some of you will think what a cheat...
But what was a simply idea turned out a bit more than I thought, but I hung in there.
First you need a bag of Jelly Babies...now has I’ve not eaten them for quite some time I realise now that they come with a white coating of dust over them.
So first wash your Jelly Babies with a small brush and water, at this stage they are stickier that glue.
Leave to dry overnight on a cooling rack. The next day they are still sticky but workable. Try to teach them to stand on their own.
Not easy, and like in real life you do get some that are taller, so make sure they are at the back.
Also try not to leave finger prints on their heads when moving.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/Asmallcrowd.jpg
Things I’ve learnt this week
1. It’s true never work with children and animals
2. If you get a good idea and stick with it, you will be glad you did.
3. You can get great enjoyment eating your props.

This idea is sweeet! And the photo is good too :) Love the DOF - shame the black one is so dark that no detail comes out (could be my screen though!) as it acts as a bit of a black hole and draws attention away from the nice detail on the others. How did you light it?
Oooh, now I want jelly babies!

yum yum yum! Nice arrangement and well composed. I wonder if they'd benefit from some light shone on the front row. You could use a desk lamp or something silver/white to reflect the natural light,
Lovely idea! And that's coming from someone who hates Jellybabies with a passion... I think the reflector on to the front row would have really helped to lift the detail, but that's just nit picking. Another great shot!!

Great idea for "Crowds" - always good to see something a bit different and the trials and tribulations of what at first seems like a good idea are very familiar to me! I used smarties for my crowd shot... they melt and leak colour over your nice white background if you're not careful :bang:
The black one also looks too dark / no detail to me but I'm pretty sure that will be my monitor.

This shot was taken today at the mouth of the River Tamar it has mostly brand new Motor Yachts in the photo.
They are manufactured here in Plymouth at Stonehouse by Princess Yachts and the boat yard is just out of view.
The ones you can see are ready to under go sea trails before going out to customers. I'm not sure of the starting price of the Yachts but they go up to and over £2,000,000...so from my point of view that real Wealth...

as for wealth ...... well what can i say fantastic image. even if you were not trying to show wealth you are right on with that:thumbs:
on another level the photo itself, the composition and light are really something. i love the way the line of yachts makes you follow it all the way to the building in the background and then along to the open sea.....
you actually do see the whole picture instead of just what you need to.

Nice shot, I think the amount of sky isn't adding anything and most of it could easily be cropped out (giving an almost panoramic shot). I definitely agree boats = wealth but can't help look at this and wonder if this is naval equivalent to the car parks full of unsold cars

I was struggling to come up with something genuinely original for the Identity subject.
I went through lots of ideas, but as we all know by now getting them to work is a different story.
I always wanted to use my passport, but needed a twist on a very old joke...
So the caption is...
Told you my passport photo was shocking...

Re-shoot
Now this was only for fun...and it was great working with Jackson again (neighbours cat)
We came up with a plan if I bought him some food, he would support the brand...
I believe he is saying...
Coshida it’s the only one for me...

Things I’ve learnt this week
1.Don’t worry ideas that work will come good in the end.
2. I’m starting to see more photo opportunities around the home, that’s something I was never good at before.
3.It’s taken me about a year to start to get to grips with PSE6...I know I’ve just started to scrape the surface, but it’s doing this challenge each week that make me want to push this part of my photography skills.

This week has been so hectic you wouldn’t believe...not only have I been doing my normal work but like a fool offered to decorate my sister in-laws front room this weekend...

It’s supposed to be Pearls of Wisdom...

Things I’ve Learnt this week
1.Don’t volunteer to decorate at the weekend, it stops you being creative.
2.If you don’t have a backup plan then you’re in trouble.
3.You can play around with what you do have till the cows come home but it’s still going to be a pig’s ear.
Its a beautiful image Spartacus, not sure I would have guessed the pearls of wisom but I like the image.
Excellent....needs nothing more to be said!!
Jon
Perls of wisdom excellent idea :)
Once you know the title it works very well, i think the problem is their not obviously peals, thus it isn't the first thing to come to mind. The images is lovely though :)
What a fantastic image! How did you get such a nice blue gradient? The colours and "warmth" of the shot are spot on. As said, I didn't guess they were pearls of wisdom at first! I thought of prayer beads :)

I like it, the pier does dominate the shot, which detracts from the human interaction / relationship somewhat but once you notice the human element it makes the shot. In fact you then have two relationships, mother and daughter and their relationship with the environment around them.
Top marks for what proved to be a very challenging theme.

Well this week I decided to put in a bit more effort with regards to information on this week’s subject...
In September 1679, John Lanyon bequeathed £300 for the use of the poor people of the new parish and for the building an Almshouse. In October 1678 the site in Green Street was conveyed, for the sum of £50 3s. When the buildings were completed in 1680, they were conveyed by Martyn and his partners to the Corporation, who held them until they were forced to hand them over to the board of Guardians in 1708 Lanyon’s bequest eventually proved insufficient to maintain the properties so some other bequests, including £100 left by Mr John Gubbs, was added to the fund.
Following the demolition of the “Old Church Twelve’s” in 1868, these Almshouses were rebuilt the following year with enlarged accommodation. They remain on the same site opposite the remains of Charles Church, although now fronting the Charles Cross roundabout rather than in the peace and quiet formerly when they were in Green Street.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/finishedpovertyusethisone2.jpg
Things I’ve learnt this Week
1.How could I have driven past these houses for years and not realised their history.
2.Sometimes you need to get out of the car and wonder around your towns/cities and appreciate what’s on your doorstep.
3.This truly put poverty in perspective for me.
It's easy to forget when you're away from the UK how much history there is and it also makes you think about how hard life was for all but the fortunate few in the not so distant past. Well thought out take on this weeks theme, Marcus!
A very thought provoking shot, well done,
I am nearing the end of an English Degree so having the chance to test my Olde English skills was fun!!
I have heard of trust funds that were set up by local churches to help those most in need, but never houses, it made me wonder who lives there today!
The shot itself is nice and clear and has a good angle. I would have liked to see what it looked like in colour, but sometimes these things just don't work in colour and we are not supposed to post more than one. So I guess I'll just have to wonder. :D

Wow love the way you have presented the shot this week, very well done indeed.
BTW my Gran used to live in Bedworth Alms houses and my Aunty Lives there now, they are lovely buildings :D
I agree with Ruth, you have presented these well, interesting background story too.
Well done.
Excellent image Marcus, the picture is well presented, well thought out and laid out, and fits the theme really well.
There's a rich tapestry around most towns and villages in the UK, there is around here too.

Thing I've learnt this week

2. If your going to photograph a car badge, make sure you clean it first or you will spent 30 minutes cloning out all the dirty marks...
3. Check with the owner before you take photo's of their pride and joy, they don't understand it when a artist is at work...:D

So this was all I could come up with in end...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/TammarandBrunellBridgesboarder2.jpg
It's the Duo bridges to get in to Cornwall from Devon...
Brunel's design for the Royal Albert Bridge, Saltash, consists of two wrought iron trusses each spanning 465 feet and weighing 1,000 tons with a clear headway for river traffic of 100 feet. The underwater portion of the central pier is a cylinder, 35 feet in diameter, and the base is 80 feet below high water. It was opened by the Prince Consort in 1859 shortly before Brunel's death and it still carries all the rail traffic to Penzance.
The Tamar Bridge is a major road bridge at Saltash in southwest England carrying traffic between Cornwall and Devon. When it opened in 1961 it was the longest suspension bridge in the United Kingdom. In 2001 it became the world's first suspension bridge to be widened (from three to five lanes) using cantilevers, and the world's first bridge to undergo strengthening and widening work while remaining open to traffic. The five lanes are divided as follows: three lanes carry the A38 trunk road, the fourth is reserved for eastbound local traffic and the fifth for pedestrians and cyclists. Previously all traffic merged and shared the three lanes.
Construction of the Tamar Bridge began in July 1959. Before this, the lowest road crossing of the River Tamar was Gunnislake New Bridge at the village of Gunnislake. This seven-arched granite bridge was built in the early 16th century (c. 1520). It is still in use today but it is only wide enough to carry one lane of traffic. Before the Tamar Bridge was opened, most car drivers wishing to travel between Saltash (on the Cornish side) and the Devon city of Plymouth used car ferries. Today the Tamar Bridge carries approximately 40 000 vehicles every day. It is co-owned by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall County Council, and is managed by the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee. A toll of GBP1.00 per car is charged when driving from Cornwall into Devon, although the price is halved using the electronic payment system. Motorcycles do not have to pay.
The Tamar Bridge is located above the Hamoaze, and runs parallel to Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge (sometimes referred to as the Brunel Bridge) which opened in 1859 and is considered to be one of his greatest railway achievements. Both bridges offer wonderful views of the Tamar Valley and Tamar Estuary. The Tamar, Lynher and Tavy Valleys form one of England's thirty-seven Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

imho, that's an impressive shot.:clap:
Where were you standing to take it - in the river? It's a great pov, and the bridges are both incredible feats of engineering. It makes me think how inaccessible Cornwall used to be.
I enjoyed reading the story behind them, and the explanation of the lane allocation reminded me of a sign which used to be on the original Menai suspension bridge in North Wales "no overtaking except bicycles by bicycles" :D

I agree with you as well - tricky subject this week!
Great idea mate, shore line could use a little tweak to straighten it but other than that its a fine image that fits the theme well.
Apologies Spartacus, with having an essay, my replies are hit and miss and sometimes I do miss people.
Letter. This is a great shot, the silver letters are crystal clear (something I am struggling with at the mo) and the background is brilliant white giving an overal crisp finish

I think the composition is good - the only thing I would do differently is bring the man over slightly to the right (so he is more on the third) to make him more prominant. As it is the chain fence is sort of leading my eye past him into the background rather than to him.

Congratulations on this! It's very photo-journalist in mood, the mono treatment's perfect for it and your 'model' does indeed have a look of 'longing' for a catch.
It's great to hear you're out and having fun with your camera again - and taking a terrific leap out of your comfort zone to ask a complete stranger!
Excellent stuff. :thumbs::thumbs:

Perfectly said, well done.
thats fantastic mate, great composition and the processing really suits :)
This one has reeled me in  so meets the theme well.
The monoconversion is perfect for this and once you get over the fear (as you have) you find most people are really happy to comply. As has already been said, very photojournalistic, although I agree the fisherman would have been better placed a litlle more to the right but asking that as well was probably a step too far  (sorry, just getting in a few puns of my own :D):clap:

Well for me the reshoot was an obvious choice after the poor effort at the Duo on week 15.
I hope I’ve managed to get over the beauty of this location. We had a celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the opening of the Royal Albert Bridge this weekend so it all the more special.

Again thought I had plenty of time with this easy subject....:(
Didn’t allow for taking the other half away till Sunday...
So this miserable shot is all I could come up with...yes I know, rubbish but it fits the theme (sort of) The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (yes there is a vinyl record in the sleeve) and of course Darth Vader and that definitely the Dark Side...
Things I’ve learnt this week
1.Stop leaving it till the last minute to get your main theme sorted out...:nono:
2.It’s great having a re-shoot so you get another bite of the cherry...
3.Just because it’s a Bank Holiday, don’t think you got all the time in the world...
Your reshoot is superb, You have really taken the crit on board and knocked this out of the park, very, very well done.
Your Dark image is fine, a slightly more dramatic pose for Darth may have been good, works well as it is though.
Did I mention I liked your reshoot?:eek::thumbs:
I liked the original of duo, but this is just so far and away streaks ahead of it, superb.
I really like Dark... I recognised it all straight away and if fits the theme really well (I had all those Star Wars toys, wish I knew what had happened to them :D)

Longing - Really like that shot, the B&W treatment is fantastic, can't add anything more than has already been said.
Reshoot - Much better althought it does seem a little dark to me.
Dark - great imagination and stunning lighting on Darth.
I too liked your Duo shot the first time, but this reshoot is soooo much better. The clouds are good the level at which your standing is good and the grass/plants add some interest in the foreground. I didn't notice the first time, but both bridges have duo's in that the posts/supports are in two also.
Great shot
Dark is also a good shot. The lighting on the figure is spot on, giving just enough light to give detail, but not too much to be light. The background isn't quite doing it for me, although I'm not sure why! (sorry that probably isn't very helpful)
well done though for two good shots.:clap:
I think you've nailed both themes this week.:clap:
Jon
Loving your reshoot :love: :clap::clap::clap:
Dark - I wondered if someone would do Dark Side of the Moon and you haven't disappointed and the Lighting on DV is fantastic. I wonder what it would look like if the Album was in focus - maybe detract from DV but I don't think so. But that's just a minor crit from personal taste because I love the album cover so much. Well done sir, and well done for getting a reshoot in too.
Great shots :clap::clap:
Both fantastic, the compostion on the reshoot is fantastic and the b/g for dark is genius imo

So here we go again another week and I’ve managed to get something in on time.
I seem to be making a habit of leaving thing last minute. I really am struggling to find the time just at the moment with a million things that take preference from my finishing my week’s task.
Still it’s the same for all of us I guess, but it’s not getting any easier as the weeks go by.
Maybe you too have notice the amount of people dropping out as we go. I had a list of people that I would comment on but that getting smaller.
Well here’s my effort for this week nothing special, but it’s a very simple carving that was given to my wife sometime ago, but the more I look at it the more I love the simple lines that draw you in.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/marcus1956/fig3.jpg
Things I’ve learnt this week
1. It’s good to still be here at Week 18.
2. What did I ever do before these 52s?
3. Hope next week is a bit easier.

I think you've done well here. The lighting and clean b/g really add to the simplicity of the theme. Well done for keeping going.
Mark
I've looked at this over and over and I can't find anything to crit about it, superb shot.
Love the colour of the background, the lighting, the shape of the statue.
Starting to see you bring more to the table week on week, keep it up mate.

Catch up time, for me. I'm sorry I managed to miss your reshoot and week 17, so here goes:
Duo reshoot: I loved your first shot of this, ... and I love this one, too. It's a totally different perspective and I like the dramatic sky, although a clear blue sky would, imo, make it a strong candidate for a postcard or tourism publicity brochure! Very nice indeed
Dark: The Dark side of the Moon :bonk: I thought of the title, but couldn't think of a way to illustrate it in a photograph. Well done - perfect take on the theme.
Week 18 Simple:

I can't say it better than that. Spot on.:clap:

I missed your Dark & reshoot shots - how rude! :bonk:
Re-shoot - Lovely composition and a great perspective on the scene. Even the foreground stuff is interesting - the more I look at it the more I like
Dark - love the lighting on the figure and it's a great take on the theme.
Simple - another great shot - love the graduation of light to dark in the background and there is nothing not to like about the subject itself.
Two great weeks - can't wait to see what you do for Linear!
Oooooh, good shot, love the blue BG and the lighting on this, very nice!
Well done
nice form and shape with great lighting and a bg that really suits :D
Another great shot from you sir :clap::clap:
Simple clean lines and the lighting and graduated background are spot on

Youe reshoot is fabulous for duo - shows the two bridges off to great effect!
Dark - two dark icons in one shot - splendid! Great idea well executed :)
Simple - what a lovely piece of art that is - love it! and you've captured it sooo well!
Truly a lovely and simple shot :D
Simply stunning. Background, use of light and shadow, placement, clarity, colour all spot on. well done.

Thank you for the very positive response for last week’s theme Simple.
I’m still having a problem assessing my photography for these 52s each week.
I have so many idea’s I’d like to do but find either time or skill (sometime both) don’t allow.
So when I do put in my photo I’m never really that happy with it... :(
Please tell me I’m not the only one to think this about their photography...:suspect:
Anyway on with this week’s shot...glad I wasn’t using my old 35mm film camera or I think the cost of film alone would have had me remortgaging...
This is what I settled for in the end...
But it fits the themes and that’s what counts in the end.

Things I’ve learnt this week
1.Stop being so arty and wasting time on rubbish ideas...:bang:
2.If you’re struggling with a shot walk away and come back later if you still think it’s worth it.
3.Try not to be so self critical of your own work.:nono:

Thank goodness you've summed up what I often feel about the 52, I'm very rarely happy with the results as I find finding the time difficult to say the least....anyway, good to know i'm in company. Todays shot is something you should be proud of, on theme and good composition to boot
I see great minds think alike, nicely done :)
You are difinitely not the only one to think this way!!
Lovely composition this week and glad you decided to go with this idea. The colours within the picture are very nice on the eye too. well done

:agree:
Colours and composition make this work well :)
The two elements I love about this are the vanishing point tucked over to the left and that row of white houses on the right holds some kind of fascination for me ..thus balancing the image :)
Nice one!
Great shot, fits the theme perfectly!!
And I think the same of mine, don't worry - although you have no reason to!

I agree completely with what you are saying about self assessment. I really like a picture until I post it then think OMG surely you can do better than that!
I love the perspective of this picture, leading you to the bridge at the end than the eye sweeping back past the houses. The only thing I would have liked to see was a bit more atmosphere in the sky, but where are the clouds when you need them . But that's just a minor niggle.
Well done sir :clap::clap::clap:

You're definatley not alone, I have the same thoughts about my own photography. Just lately I've had a few people complimenting me on my pictures, I really struggle with it as I can't often see it myself. :shake:

Hehehe - I was going to say - you're not alone in not being able to assess your own photos - there are 2 of us!! But it seems we occupy a crowded space. It always amazes me when people look at their work and think it's perfect - there's always something to learn. :)
Don't stop being 'arty' though - it's the experiements that may not work that push us forwards, and constructive criticism by anyone is a learning opportunity. Even self-criticism (constructive, of course!) :)
This week's shot is excellent. For me it's the composition that makes it - textbook vanishing points in particular.:thumbs: I also like the strong horizonal line of the bridge.
Jean
I'm another one who isn't happy with most of the images I produce (not just the 52, although that more often then most)...
As for Linear, it works really well, the lines are strong, good work

Is there room for one more :D
In a way it's good to think this way as it will spur us all on to bigger and better things... and hopefully taking part in this project will help us keep the motivation going.
I think your shot works very well for the theme and I love how you've caught the colour of the sky
Oh and please don't stop being arty - isn't there a saying that goes along the lines of "I didn't fail the test, I just found 100 ways to do it wrong". I'm working on the basis that by getting it wrong 100 time I am learning and one day I might just find the way to get it right. That will be a good day :)
I agree with everyone else here, Marcus! Great stuff this week. I think you know what I'm going to say though, this would look great in black and white...

Things I’ve learnt this week

2.If you take too many shots it’s going to be impossible to get just one you like.
3.People pull the funniest faces while running.
No 3 for me regarding the theme, but no 2 for enjoyment;)

I like all three - for different reaons.
#1 - I like the way you've filled the frame with runners - they could be anywhere, they're just running. You've caught so many different expressions and emotions, and dof and focus are spot on.
#2 - They're having fun - and you've captured it beautifully.
#3 - Ahh, doesn't your heart go out to this little chap. Again, very well captured.
What a great set - and each one made me smile.:clap::clap:

Nice set!
1. I like how you've filled the frame, this shot is literally FULL of different emotions.
2. Great fun shot - gives a real feeling of the spirit of the day.
3. Pick of the bunch for me - although without the other two it would lack context.
The pic you have chosen shows a wide range of emotions but i have to say i love the kiddy, they have such great expressions and you have caught it well :D

Ah its all been said above Marcus - three great shots - they each could have been great individual shots for this weeks theme
But for me #2 exudes sooo much happiness :) and #3 the exact reverse and both take equal prizes in this trio!
Well no wonder you had trouble choosing which to put in, because they are all fantastic shots!!
I think number one is my favourite because of the differing emotions in the crowd, and it is one of those where's wally shots that each time you look at it you see something you hadn't noticed before. I also love the colours that the crowd give this image. super
Now your just showing off! Any one of them would fit the bill but the first is the pic for me, love the colour and how you have created a sea of faces with nothing to distract or break the flow of the pic, superb shot.
Any would work perfectly for the theme, and all three are great photos... that's such an awesome stomp in #3 though.. that would be my pick.

Blimey this has turned out a lot more thought provoking then I first thought...
I was getting a bit bogged down with what to do and found this subject very hard to get to grips with...:gag:
Hope this is going to be ok for this week’s theme...:(
A very complex and beautiful thing to me is to see birds flying with what appears with so very little effort.:)
So my Complex is a very important component of how they can achieve this...

It’s been a better week for me this week so I’ve managed to get in my shot earlier than of late...:D
This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now and although it not the best picture I’ve ever taken it is one that I enjoyed doing...
To me this is what the 52s are about; trying out things you don’t do normally or never tried...
