Hi
i am wondering about buying a 2x teleconverter for my minolta 50mm f1.7 lens so that it will reach 100mm. but i wasn't sure whether it would alter its 1:1 magnification, so that it would end up do 1:2 or worse!

a 1:1 image is the same size on a 50mm lens as it is on a 180mm lens but a 2x conver will increase the magnification of a 1:1 lens.

IIRC it would become a 2:1 lens, so your working distance wouldn't change but your magnification would double

and you would loose an extra 2 stops worth of light

Yep, pretty much a given with a 2x
Although hurts a lot more as your f2.8 lens at max magnification lest the same light in as an F11 before you stop down
Ouch!

have a look at kenko extension tubes - they will give you a 2:1 magnification and better quality.
