This may be of some interest to some one.

Right , I couldn't find a bag for my D4o and 18-200. one camera bag i have is fussy to get into quickly . My Lowepro top zoom makes me nervous because its not very well padded. The crumplers look cool but are tight on size.
I looked and looked and everything seemed to have one thing I didn't like.

So I had an idea to make my own
You will need:
A very cheap camera bag that holds your stuff (mine is £10 from argos)
It doesn't matter if its not got good padding, you don't like the strap or its not quiet big enough for your stuff.

A cool man bag of your choice (tK Maxx £6- £20)

A load of super tough sticky backed (not plastic for those who remember blue peter) but Velcro. Super tough velcro is the secret ingredient here. Mine was from woolies but you'll have to hunt around now.

It's kinda self explanatory really but is better than it looks. I put a peice of foam padding in the bottom of the man bag so the cheapy case now has double padding.
If you put the little bag left or right you can make one or two more compartments the size you want for extra stuff
I used the velcro to hold the little case in place and to make it so that the lid will velcro shut or velcro open so that when I open the man bag I can get the camera easy or shut it in tight.
As an extra plus when I'm walki ng about the man bag can be velcro'd shut but it also has a zip so if its dusty or in transit it can be zipped up too.
As another plus... the bench bag has loads of pockets etc is well made and doesn't advertise "camera"
A litle obsessive but someone might find it useful..

So basically, you just carry two bags about with you instead of one?

It's not a great idea, can't see the point of placing one bag inside another, and the only reason for it could be you personally are very fashion conscious:shrug:

I think you have done well Alex ...

Camera bags can get a bit expensive .... This gets around that.

It can also be a good idea to not have your bag looking like a camera bag.

why not just use the little black ''argos'' bag? seems a little pointless to me.
who cares what the bag looks like if it protects your gear and keeps it safe its doing its job? rite?
oh well each to there own i suppose.;)

Its too slow for me to get into quick (two fiddly zips) and the padding isn't enough
I'm not that vain;) to care about looks

Good idea Alex, if it works for you, that's all that matters.
I made a DIY rucksack using cheap but Very Light padding because I found the additional weight (and cost) of the professional bag too much for me to justify.

I have done the same with a rucksack, if it works it works

I have done something similar with my handbag (added internal padding) so I can carry a camera around in it if I wish. Cannot get much else in though :D

DIY bag made from 2 bags. Hmmmm :p

Sounds like my dad's story about being stuck on a deserted island.... Until he found a boat which he smashed up to make a raft.

Well, not much like it but it reminded me of it.

I don't much like what's on offer in the way of camera bags (that I can afford anyway) so I recently bought a small canvas bag (in army dark green) for about £5 and made a foam block which sits inside cut out to take a camera body with 50mm lens attached and 28mm and 135mm lenses in separate apertures along with a couple of rolls of film.

I would consider something like this as i am really vein about what i wear. Although i also like the fact my little Slingshot 100 looks like a cheap bag to any theiving git, but togs look and go "thats a camera bag"
