Can't help you with the price (will keep my eyes open for you though mate) but I can highly recommend the 24-105L.

I got one when I upgraded from a 350D to a 40D and it’s a great lens very sharp! :)

Both Canon and Nikon have upped their prices because of the recession.
I don't know how you feel about eBay and secondhand, but there's one here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270326954937 and the seller has excellent feedback.

7 day shop for £679.

But beware most people are seriously low on stock of lenses at the moment. Warehouse express have some great prices on lenses but dont have any in stock until February so I hope your not desperate.

Cheers

Looks like everything has gone up lately. Just means more time to save.

Personally I've had two very bad experiences with 7dayshop and I've vowed never to use them again.

Last summer they had a special offer on a Canon 400mm f/2.8 for whch they'd lost/damaged the packaging but was otherwise brand new. At £4000 I jumped in, expecting that it would probably have been sold by now, but when they charged my card I thought I must have got lucky. However the lens didn't arrive ... so I enquired ... and it turned out that they only had the one at that price, and they'd already sold it to someone else. No problem, I suggested, they could send me another one at that price; after all, by charging my card they had entered into a contract. Of course they didn't want to do that, and said they'd refund my money, but somehow it took them nearly a month to do so.

Another time I wanted two Canon 400mm f/5.6s. They charged my card for two, sent me an invoice for two, but only sent me one lens. It turned out that they only had one in stock, and they had no idea when they'd get any more in, and they weren't able to give me a good explanation as to why they had charged my card for two. Again it took me nearly a month to get my money back.

Their operational model seems to be:
(a) first of all, grab the money from the customer's card;
(b) then check to see if they've got the item in stock;
(c) if the item isn't in stock, don't bother to tell the customer;
(d) just wait and see whether the customer enquires and complains.

Cheers mate. That really don't sound too cleaver. Think I will avoid them then. Will keep looking, would rather pay a bit more and feel more comfortable that I will get what I order than mess with 7 day.

Cheers chap.

Fixation are getting rid of their current stock of 24-105 at 685....soon as those go though they are bumping up the prices too, might be worth a call to confirm if they have any left at that price.

I ordered from their last friday and had it confirmed that they had them instock and at that price so I ordered......turned up on monday.....very happy.

I had one in the past on my old 400D - very nice indeed, not quite wide enough for me as a perfect walkaround lens though.

I think I should find it just wide enough on my Full Frame. We shall see, when I find one. These are getting a bit like rocking horse poo. Unless I want to pay near £800.

Right. Best price I can find Inc. Delivery Next Day is £689.95. Did find a place selling for Just under £600, but the site dont feel right to me, and I think an extra £90 is better than £600 down and no lens. Think I may order this up today as they have stock.

Have a look at T4 Cameras. They have it in stock for £679 delivered. I've used T4 several times and always found them to be excellent. Give Richard a ring at the Swindon branch.

Not recession as such but the comparative weakness of the pound against other currencies on the money markets.

Where and where? :D
If the dodgy place is local to someone, then they may chose to take a chance? I was looking, but won't be buying any time soon. Have been under threat of redundancy for the last 2-3 months, and they've finally carried that threat through :( So have to watch the pennies now.

I ordered from Simply in the end. Got a couple of 2Gb Micro SD Card for £2 each too.

As I treated myself to a TomTom 740 too. Oh dear, all that OT is now in a Lens and a TomTom :)
