View Full Version : Strange things with flickr explore

I've always had 7 photos that according to scout (http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/scout.php) made it into flickr explore.
I just checked and now this seems to have doubled to 14, and some of the added shots aren't even viewed alot or commented on
Anybody else noticed this with their photos? I wonder if scouts telling porkies or flickr has changed the interestingness algorithm to be not very interesting
I had that tell me i ha a couple in explore, but never came across them nor were there any new comments/views on those shots.
I had a picture that had 1308 comments last night, clicked on page 2 of the comments and it was blank (it actually had about 15), maybe there be gremlins about.
Its possible that people have uploaded photos since then and changed the upload date which coincides with the date yours were in explore....and if theirs rates higher, it knocks yours off (same in reverse)
Thats my understanding of how photos can drop in / out of explore months after uploading.
I'm personally having doubts about my continued use of flickr. I don't really get properly involved in any of the groups, mostly just read/lurk posts. I don't tend to use it to view other people's photography (which is bad, I know!) and don't really comment on other photographs. I really just upload photos there out of habit for friends/family to view. I could easily just as well put photos up on a personal site as opposed to using flickr. I believe I've got another 8 or 9 months on my pro account so might as well stick it out but I don't know if I'll be renewing. Does anyone know what happens with photos on pro accounts when the pro account lapses? Do you get to keep them or do they delete any images over the non-pro limit of 200?

There does seem to be gremlins about at the moment. For some reason yesterday it uploaded my photos twice  It was a total pain in the arse having to go through my new uploads and delete every second shot.
If you let your pro account lapse, i think they keep anything over your 200, but you can't see them. Then, if you buy a pro account again, you get them all back IIRC.

The images are still there when you downgrade your account, but only the latest 200 uploads can be viewed.
Just remembered I was also trying to find pictures taken in New York within the last two days last night, and it was giving me about 6 months worth of results (mainly old pics that had been uploaded recently), checked all my settings and everything was correct.
I would say something is borked.
