:-( Does nobody have anything to say about this one either. Am I missing something here on the site now ?

Well spotted, but for me the picture doesn't work.
There are a few things that could have improved the picture at the time is was taken.

First point is the blown highlights on the arms and legs of the apes.
This is down to the camera metering from the shadows, which results in the foreground being over exposed.
Try using a flash to balance the lighting when faced with harsh lighting.

Secondly it looks very soft.
This may be down to you using too slow a shutter speed, and too wide an aperture, or the AF point has picked out a spot on the wall instead of on the subject (this usually happens if you have the multi point AF activated).
Do you have the exif info for the photo?
This information would help in future posts, as it would be easier to make recommendations to you from the exif data.

Third point, for me the background is a little untidy, with the piping/wiring going along the floor.
Also try to remember not to sever a part of your subject if it is not a portrait shot.

Please don't be disheartened by not receiving many comments in this instance. Sometimes it can be difficult for people to put their thoughts into words.

Hopefully you will not take my comments to harshley.

Not true Love..... more like ... "I met this geezeer down the pub, he said to me, 'I can get you you good deal (are you listening to me, son?)'...." and so the story goes.

It has huge potential but I fell it's lacking something. Good effort, in trying to recreate a story (whatever it may be) but never easy to make it count in a fraction of a second.

:help: where to start  with an apoligy I think, I know it is not easy to comment on other peoples photos. Sorry folks

I am a bit disheartened with all my efforts and need to look at what I am trying to do with my camera.

My wee camera is still on automatic. I am still too trigger happy. I dont always take time to really look at what I want/dont want in photo and pay enough attention to the light. Lots to learn and apply :bonk:

thanks for taking time to reply to a stroppy flu ridden wifie

Point 1: What on earth are you apologizing for. You've had the courage to post a picture and accept some critic advice. Good on you

Point 2: Good or bad, it's only by seeking other peoples views that we as n00b's learn how to take 'good' photo's.

Point 3: TeeHee, I'm still a bit like you, brain says point and shoot first and then (maybe) thinks about composition and stuff. Thats when I go back for a second shot.

Recently I went to an air show in Scotland, shot about 300 frames, of that only 10 or so are really any good. However I've sat and gone through them all figuring out what I did wrong - learning. Saturday I was at a village fête and took about 60 shots. From that I've got about 15 good'ns. So I must be learning something

Keep on snapping, posting and learning :D :D

10 days of nasty virus, little sleep and months of not seeing anything that excites me to try and capture it. Gibralter was fun, I think I used my camera that day as I would have as a kid, point and shoot. Wires etc are everywhere here in Spain as in some other countires I have been to. Sometimes I dont take the photo if I cannot find an angle where they are least obvious ! Off to Zagreb week on monday, hopefully will find some inspiration there :-)
