Tamrac Backpacks

Has anyone here got practical experience and views on Tamrac backpacks? The one I am considering is the Tamrac Expedition 7 Model 5587 http://www.tamrac.com/5587.htm.

This is big enough and has all the features that I need, however I would like opinions on practicality, durability, quality, and waterproofing of this brand/range.

I have one, but when I got it I cut off the belly strap and tucked it behind the pad that sits against the small of your back. I think this strap is overkill personally. The bag is very deep which really helps cram a lot of stuff in. There's loads of compartments and room for two bodies and three lenses (one being a 100-400) Flash, charger, cleaning stuff etc. Very comfortable but not yet tried it in a wild & wet situation. Seeme very well made and so far (7months) nothing has come loose. Great pocket for the tripod too and plenty of straps to attach bits/bobs. It's a big bag though.

My friend's got one of these; it performed admirably when we were out and about not so long ago.

One thing that you'd have to be careful of is the weight of all your kit on a prolonged foot expedition; he was moaning that it was heavy towards the end of the day, although to be honest, he didn't need to bring half of what he brought with him.

It depends what you're going to use it for I reckon. I've got an Adventure 7, which allows me to carry my camera and lenses (with the tele in the main compartment) with a blower and a few bits and bobs quite snugly.

Built like a tank - and the support structure is truly awesome. Feels like you're lifting a kitchen sink onto your back but once there the weight is very well managed!

I have that very same bag, very spacious, comfortable, but the problem is, because it can hold so much, you put enough in to fill it, and then gets weighty.

I've got an Adventure 7 which is very well built, very comfortable but too small and I dream of an Expedition 7.
I prefer Tamrac rucksacsk (their look, their conception) to more famous (and expensive) Lowepro ones.

I've got a tamrac adventure 74 (model 5374) and altho its small its is rather mighty and i have no many occasions been amazed how much stuff you can get in, and attach to, this bag. The bags are well constructed and offer a good amount of protection for you gear.

I have to agree with that. I have worn mine for extended periods (upto 10 hours with the stuff in my sig plus bits and bobs) and it is more comfortable than any pack I have had before.

I've got the Expedition 8 and as others have said, its a very comfortable and spacious bag. Recommended! :)

i have a smaller one the 5 i think, lots of room and easy to where i really like it, it withstands me traipsing about with it and i have taken it on planes without a problem. If you get caught in wet weather make sure the zip cover is in palace otherwise you can geta bit of water in from their other appears water resistant = was caught in very heavy rain the stuff was dry when i got home but i empited it out to allow the bag to dry off.

I have the Expedition 5 and when it's full it is pretty heavy if wandering around all day, so be sure you really need a bigger bag.

I have owned it for a year or so and had no problems with it.
In the wet,it's fine if the main zip cover in place, the other zips are waterproof.

Durability-wise mine still looks brand new and am chuffed with the system for keeping used memory cards separate.

I have one of their smaller backpacks, the 3380 aero (http://www.parkcameras.com/9744/Tamrac-3380-Aero-Photo-laptop-Backpack---Rust.html).

Its great, and wonderful quality. I am looking for a bigger bag, and becuase of the quality of my Tamrac, I am looking as the expedition range, and having seen them in the flesh, I am likily to go for a tamrac again. I think they are superior to Lowepro IMHO.

I'd give Tamrac a big :thumbs:

The Expedition 8 is a great bag. It holds all my kit well and I carry it as hand luggage when we go overseas.
It is a big bag which sits nice on my back but I would not like to think I was a smaller person using this all day.
I have used it in the Swiss Alps and it was faultless.

Another votefor Tamrac here. I have the Expedition 5 (I think). Great bag. Very well made. I too think it's better than the Lowepro equivalents.

Get the water bottle add-on though, a small flask fits in it very well......:thumbs:

I am planning a short trip this weekend and I have been loading the Tamarc with my gear. It is easy to get all the stuff in, and the backpack is very comfortable.
