Ok I lost 2 of my 77mm lens caps and the hood to the 17 - 40 L F4
Canon EW83E

Looks like I'm going to have to buy another one but its always worth asking.

Why not try the EW-83J hood, you'll get better protection and flare control on an APS-C body.

Yeah I suppose I could. I will get a full frame camera one day though. Also the hood for the 17 - 40 works with my 10 - 22

Can a mod move this to wanted please?

If you end up having to buy new, Marumi make Canon replacement hoods and are considerably cheaper than "real" Canon ones. 7day list both - EW-83J Marumi £15.99; EW-83E Marumi £12.39, Canon £23.49. They also stock Canon caps - £6.99 for a 77mm one. Your friendly local camera shop (if you have one) may have a cap or two in their odds'n'sods box and may let you have a rummage.
