Before heading off on my RTW trip im thinking of getting my 40D services.

Colchester firm (from canon website) want £140 for a service and £40 for a sensor clean for the 40D

for the 24-105 L they want £150 for the service (plus vat on all of them)

So i guess i need to fully inspect the gear first to se whther it really does need it (focussing, dust spots etc). It all seems to work fine at the moment.

Anyone else had gear serviced / cleaned, if so where and and at what cost / would you recommend them. I have 3 months before I leave.

Thanks
Greg

Slightly cheaper and most likely quicker would be Fixation in London.

I've used them for a 5D sensor clean and they were great. They're geared more towards servicing pros so have quite fast turnaround.

Andy.

I've used Fixation before and would use them again!

I had the mirror box and shutter replace by fixation on my D2X and it was a different camera when it came back! Never realised the focus was not spot on until they returned it and it was superb. Could not recommend them more highly!

I've re-read your post, and I really don't understand why you want to do this.

If it ain't broke, why are you trying to fix it?

I'd keep the money in case of problems while you're on your RTW trip,if it's working fine leave it alone,if it breaks when you're in a foreign country they'll have approved local service agents to fix it.
