hi guys i have a s100fs fuji bridge camera but when i take b+w shots it doesnt seem to be a very good effect everything seems to be too bright still, and doesn't really give the dark effect some b+w photos that others have taken on here have..

any help appreciated

I would say the best way to get your B&W shots would be shoot in colour and do your conversions in Photoshop, I think you will find that most people do it that way as you have greater control over the process.

I agree, take your shots in colour and convert later, unless you absolutely need to shoot in black and white.

Hi I'm no expert on the subject but I do know that just because you are taking the photo in black and white mode doesn't mean it is going to have the whole range of highlight and shadow detail in the picture. The exposure needs to be spot on for a start.

What are you trying to take a picture of if you don't mind me asking as the subject changes the approach you take to getting it right.

Taking a good B&W photo is all about different textures, high contrasting colours or interesting shadow/highlight formations. There are exceptions of course and by all means there are no real rules but you have to learn to imagine a scene in B&W to see if it would work.

portraits at the moment and they all seem to be a bit flat, i'll try colour then converting them :)

Are you using the built in flash?? as this can make your images seem quite flat..

nah no flash was used, i'll try converting them on the pc, see if it does any better.. thanks for the help so far guys

No worries. if your up to it post some on people and portraits, there are some very knowledgeable people on here who would only to kind to help diagnose your problem..
