I'm finally going to bite the bullet and post my 365 here as well as on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/sets/72157611968079711/) and Blipfoto (http://www.blipfoto.com/JDholic). This being my first ever attempt at a 365, I'm not going to bore you with all of my shots. (there have been 32!! and some of my first ones were a bit iffy) I think maybe I'll just post my favourite one's so far, and then continue on from there.

Day 005

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1047/3171398632_5eabe76510.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3171398632/)

Firstly, my job is as a service engineer for a nationwide security/fire protection company. This involves a lot of driving about Northern Ireland attending jobs everywhere and anywhere.
This is the view from the beach in Carrickfergus towards the Castle. It was quite a nice day now that I look back on it.

Day 007

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3100/3177673704_e146d3327b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3177673704/)

I was really hunting for inspiration this day. I remember panicking a bit, as I had no idea what to use for my 365 shot. But, that soon panned out ok! I was called to a church on the north coast of Norn Iron in a town called Ballycastle. It was actually my first ever "proper" HDR, with three separate exposures taken at -2, 0, +2.

Day 018

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3489/3207505884_c9354d206b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3207505884/)

This is a picture of an abandoned linen bleach works in Larne. Was quite pleased with how this one turned out. I think I used one of the PS filters on it, not sure which one.

Day 023

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3306/3219949663_3d914eef98.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3219949663/)

This is Slemish mountain, only 10 minutes from my house. I've climbed to the top many times, it's great to just chill at the top and realise with the view that everything your going through really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Day 024

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/3222513373_77ed63bc18.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3222513373/)

This is Sasha, our golden Labrador. This picture really summed up how I felt this day. I'm convinced animals can pick up on how your feeling and start to feel that way too. Probably the best picture I've ever taken of her, she never sits still that long.

Day 028

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3392/3234842738_fc0bda5aba.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonnyg1980/3234842738/)

Was working in the far west of our wee country all day, this was taken in Dunfanaghy, Co.Donegal. I sat on the rocks with my flask and a sandwich and just felt a bit better.

Day 031-only yesterday.

I really don't like pictures of myself, probably why I prefer taking the pictures. This is one of a few self portraits I've tried. Hopefully I'll become more comfortable as my 365 goes on.

I'm not going to post today's picture, it was a bit of a cop out. It is available on both Flickr and Blipfoto, but I wouldn't bother.
I will post tomorrows picture up. Please feel free to comment/rip apart my pictures, I'm here to learn!!

Nice set of pictures. Day 24 says it all. Great HDR on day 7. I wish I had your job I'm stuck in an office all day. Looks like you've made a good start to the project. Good stuff.

Day 033 I'd Rather Be...

Was off sick today, just feeling really under the weather. I managed it out of bed about an hour ago, made myself a coffee thought about my 365 shot. This kind of fits how I'm feeling today. I've recently decided to stop drinking as much, I think I have only had 3 bottles of beer since New Year. Quite an achievement if you knew me!! I would rather not have a beer however, I would rather be in bed. But needs and musts always prevail.

Quite an uninspiring day at work, at least I have only 2 more days to go before I head to Co.Cork for an urbex. Spent all of today inside a factory. Crap light when I arrived this morning and even worse when I left. A friend rang on the way home suggesting a games night in. How could I refuse??

Suicidal Bunny.
Busy day at work, (again) at least I've only 1 day to go until I go to Cork.
I took quite a few pictures of various things but for some reason they just didn't look right. This was a backup plan, which is always good to have. It's a poster I have in the spare room which always makes me laugh. Am I sick??

5 and a half hours later we arrived. Got to the hostel without any problems. Then we went for a wee dander down through the town. Had to take this with the compact camera, no photoshop with me. This is straight from the camera with no editing. Quite a strange feeling...

Up early this morning and headed for an abandoned college near Cork. There were hundreds of these wee beggars everywhere. A really enjoyable day overall, we have just sat and planned what we are going to see tomorrow. I realised after posting last nights picture that I do have photoshop on my laptop.:bonk: (D'oh!!) The really annoying thing is that the internet access here won't let me access my flickr account. I'm going ever so slightly mad!!! :bang::bang:

Another fine day in Co.Cork.:woot: Up early again and visited an old convent in Cork city and then tried to get to an army fort in Crosshaven. It was a no-go but there was some lovely views. Absolutely shattered, bed early and then up early for the 5 hour drive home. :'(

Arrived home from Cork about half two this afternoon. Saw my new BT Vision box sitting waiting to be set up. "That was quick" I thought, I only ordered it on Friday.

Pulled out the display unit, wired it all up and switched it on. After half an hour this message appeared. Apparently my BT Vision service isn't going to be activated until tomorrow. Why Oh Why Oh Why do I have the box now then???

Rant over.

A bit of a rushed one tonight, BT Vision looks really good, hopefully it will maintain my interest. I've been enjoying the On Demand service quite a lot. I've watched 2 football matches and a film. All while my favourite programmes are recording!! I'm off to watch Shameless....

No idea what this bird is, a Heron??

I sat and had lunch beside a river in a town called Toome today. Was really idyllic. I didn't notice this wee fella until he turned his head. He sat in the same spot for ages, I really wanted to get a flying shot but didn't have the time to wait. They say it's all about being on the right place at the right time. At least that was true for my 365 shot today. I wish I could have got closer and it was a bit sharper, but it'll have to do.

The grey day. Under pressure with work, fed up with our so called "service desk" constantly ringing with the most stupid questions imaginable. This was taken in "stroke city" at lunch time. I stood and had a sandwich at the riverside and took a deep breath. But it looked cold so I got back in the van...

Friday the 13th nearly over without any incident. I say nearly..:naughty:..After yesterdays B&W I thought I would try another one. I used my 70-300 for a landscape shot for a change, I think it works. It's more like a selective landscape lens. I'm heading out for a few beers tonight, so be prepared for a very drunk Irish man spamming off-topic later on tonight. You have been warned..

Had a good wee day dandering round abandoned buildings with my mate Pete and a couple of others. We took a drive up the coast road towards Carnlough. This was taken at the Drumnagreagh hotel. The road you see is the coast road. The hotel now is completely wrecked. Has been vandalised beyond recognition. We used to go there for Sunday lunch regularly. Cover loads of stuff where i work (Signal distribution, AV over CAT5, Intercom, CCTV, Access etc, but tend to steer clear of intruder as too many cowboy firms get involved and make a hash of the install!) and we cover mainly the big stuff (Hospitals / MEN arena etc).

Isn't it always great when you have your photo for the day done before 10am??
I was at this church for a routine maintenance of the alarm for 9 oclock, had the photo's taken by 930 and was away to my next job at 11am.
I spent the rest of the day wondering if it was ok, what it was going to look like and if it would merge ok.

The van turned this mileage today, a bit of achievement considering. It then promptly let me down at my next job. Turned the key, wouldn't start. Called the AA and it turns out air has been getting into the fuel system, causing it not to start. He got it going but advised me to take it straight to the garage, so I'm now in another courtesy car. 5 breakdowns?? 3 months??? Time for a new van, I just wish work would agree.

It's a terrible picture to go with a terrible day.

Lets play spot the remote, It's really not hard.

Flat out with work today, Spent most of it "playing" with a 20m cherrypicker fixing some CCTV PTZ's. (Pan, Tilt Zoom) So glad to be going home, I'm going to get absolutely wasted tonight, so Beware!!

Photography wise today was crap, I took a few shots of an old RAF base on the way home, only realising when I was on the move again that I hadn't reset the exposure from last night. -2exp shots don't really look that good!! Also just realised that I've been shooting at 800 iso all day long. That's why it's in B&W!!! I need a massive button that beeps at me every time I pick the camera up.....

Day 66 (6?)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3643/3335759676_2759a479fc_b.jpg

"Stuff the job redundancies, I'm away to buy a new camera" was what I thought this morning. So off I went, I really had my heart set on a D300 but I think it's probably too much of a step up for me at the minute. And it's too much money. So I ended up buying a D90 with kit lens.

First impressions?? I've used it to take shots with all of my lens, its great having incredible ISO, it's great having AF with the 50mm, The AF system as a whole is maybe not as good as the D300 but it's a massive step up from the D40. I could ramble on for ages about how impressed I am!!

From Left to Right;

D40, D90, 70-300 VR, Bower X2 TC, 18-105 VR, 50 1.8, Sigma 10-20 and the 18-55 kit lens that came with the D40.

Not a bad collection for 9 months!!

Catching up again JD what a lovely dog you have there most of the time I wish my dog was a bitch, they are so much more placid (well usually) mine is a bit of a hooligan sometimes think he should be wearing a hoody

Congrats on the new camera hang on to your D40 though, never know when you might need it. I got my Canon 40D in May last year about a month before I went on holiday to St Lucia, I was also shooting my sisters wedding out there (don't ask how I got roped into that ) anyway my month old 40D died 2 days after I shot the wedding whilst I was out there, Luckely I had kept my old 350D which I had been going to sell to a friend, it saved the rest of the holiday for me, as I'm not one for sitting around sun bathing etc. I spent most of my time out with the camera. Anyway Jessops gave me a new camera when I got back that one is back with Canon with a sticking shutter release at the minute, so I've ended up buying a 30D a few weeks back as I sold the 350D  always good to have a spare. Bit dissapointed with the 40D though less than a year and my second one has gone wrong, I had the 350D about 2 years it was bought second hand too, took thousands of shots with it and it's still going (my mate has it now).

Bloody hell that was a lot of typing

It is good mate, The video mode was something I also thought was a gimmick, the sound isn't great, but I've only just watched one I made today using a HDMI lead straight to the TV. It's actually really impressive.

I was in a garage and saw the sugar free version was on offer. 4 tins for the price of one normal tin?? Everyone's a winner surely?? WRONG!!! It tastes really funny. Day 070 Bad Letter...

Had a few more shots planned for today, but after opening this when I came home my enthusiasm has been deflated somewhat. We have known about this for a while but this makes it real.

I've been with the firm for 4 and a half years. The last redundancies were on the basis of 1 and a half weeks pay for every year served. Terrible I know. It really wouldn't be worth even attempting to try and deal with them, here's hoping. Head down, working on.....

Friday the 13th?? Couldn't they have picked another day??

It's like playing the lottery Fabs, you just don't know.

We have heard rumours of them looking between 3-6 engineers to go, the only part of the letter that gives me any hope is the last. Operationally my section is running on a short staff anyway, we maybe have a couple more men than we need but nothing in comparison to the other sections.

The problem I have is where does it stop? We have already had a round of redundancies early last year. I don't want to maybe survive this one then have to go through the uncertainty again. I am seriously considering a steadier job that isn't kind of dependant on the building trade. Less money but a more certain future sounds nice to me.. I do hope everything turns out ok for you as well.

ShrubMonkey

Problem is no trade is really safe right now, but know what you mean. I'm the last person in my dept. left in the UK, so it's no fun at all. I've lived with the threat redundancy most years in the 8 years I've been at the company (I work in IT).

If you were north west UK based, i'd be calling you in for an interview with us - we're always on the lookout for skilled engineers (CCTV / AV stuff) as although the building side has slowed down (and affected us in a similar way to you) the medical / healthcare side has rocketed, with everyone panicking to get stuff done.

Spent today at Belfast's Flickr meet, had a really great time!! It was nice to be with other people with DSLR's. Felt quite comforting to be in a group rather than on my own!! We spent the morning dandering around Belfast, went to St.Anne's cathedral, I tried my hand at a bit of street photography, (really hard) and then on to the newly refurbished Ulster Hall. Cheers, 10mm Fabs. The Sigma 10-20 has quite a bit of lens distortion at 10mm but I've learnt to live with it. I have noticed a change since upgrading to the d90. There is hardly and blue hazy fringing any more, the d40 was terrible for it, caused me loads more time processing!!
