I blogged (http://www.newvibes.com/2009/02/05/canon-5d-mkii-dead-and-hot-pixels-issue/) about this but thought I'd share the experience here also incase anyone else has noticed this but is unsure as to what to do. Doesn't seem to be a prevalent issue.

So, having come across a post on Flickr about a gentleman who was having problems with excessive hot pixels on his new 5d mkII at long exposures I decided that it’d be a good idea to test my camera out a little more extensively to make sure I didn’t have the same problem. Turns out I did have the same problem.

Might be nicer to copy some of the text from your blog into here - so people kinda know what it's about before clicking out of TP?

Just a thought :)

Fixed.

Canon don't seem to be having much luck lately, although perhaps if they did a bit more pre-production testing, instead of rushing products to the market to try and outdo Nikon, they wouldn't be starting to look like the camera equivalent of Microsoft...

Aye. I guess it's true what they about early adopting. This is the first time I've ever bought a piece of electronic kit pretty much as soon as it came out. I've got a good body now, but yeah you'd think these things would be ironed out, at least by now.

I thought I read somewhere of a firmware update that fixed this issue...? might be wrong though.

That was a different issue. That firmware addressed the black dots on over exposed areas and also the noise banding issue. The problem I had doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.

canon seem to be awfully good at bringing out new kit, and using the customers to test it.

wasnt the new 1ds a major pain in the whatsits when it came out too?
and a tad more expensive than the 5d mk2.

Was it focus issues or something? I'll be giving my new replacement body a workout tomorrow, see how that goes. Had to set it all up again which was annoying.
