Iam after a cheap flash gun, ive seen one at jesspos for 33 quid, but seen this cobra one which tends to go for around a tenner off ebay. Does anyone have one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=290293332108

This has been asked before, I know because I asked it :)

Cheap old flashguns designed for film cameras are quite likely to damage your dSLR the trigger voltage allowed on dSLRs is quite low (from memory) maybe 5-8volts but some of these old guns trigger 20+volts where the + can be 3 figures..... You can buy a device that sits between your dSLR and an old gun to buffer it but as this costs about the same as a cheap new dSLR flash there is little point :)

I don't think you are going to do better than £33 from Jessops!

Ah yer, Do all flash guns take AA's? Do they last a while? Will probably use good rechargeable ones.

Mine takes 5 with the option of a pack of 6 extra ones !!

It really is a shame that none of the major manufacturers offers a L-ion battery pack for them. My SB800 takes about 60 shots with each charge but I think the batteries I bought from ebay are a bit pants !! I am going to replace all 3 sets with decent 1hr charge ones and a new charger as soon as I have some spare dosh !
