I was chatting with a few of you on IRC last night about this, but your attention span is that of a flea and so the conversation withered. :p

I'd quite like to do some trials photography, but with only a kit lens I'm a tad restricted. I'm often stood 5-10 metres away, sometimes even closer, I was told the Sigma 28-70 would be inappropriate. Can anyone recommend a more suitable lens?

Apologies, I should have stated that earlier. 350D.

Motorbike trials. The sport is more about stability and control, so I won't have to deal with fast moving bikes. Thinking about the distance I said earlier, I can find myself further away than that so would appreciate some length.

Do you find that your kit lens is too long or too short? How do you feel it is restricting you?

I would have thought something like an 18-200mm lens would be ideal.

70-200 is the winner no doubt.

Good luck!

I don't think it's fast enough. I find that it's too soft.

Just the kit lens.

So ideally you want something fast than the kit lens, but with the same sort of reach...

A 28-70 wouldn't be as wide, but a lot longer. I don't know how fast this lens is.

I guess you would be best off with something like the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM Lens would be ideal (if a little pricey...).

What's the concensus on the Sigma 28-70 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sigma-28-70mm-Canon-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00063KO5W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234289459&sr=1-2)?
