View Full Version : Can the Recent Threads list be longer?
Would it be possible to make the “Recent Threads” box show a greater number of threads? I find that they disappear off the bottom of the list too quickly, especially at peak times when lots of people are online and posting. Sometimes a thread can go from the top of the list to gone in 15 minutes! I’m sure a lot of people tend to rely on the Recent Threads box to keep up to date with the latest posts as well as replys to their own. If the list was longer it would give everyone a better chance of their threads being “current” for longer. Just a thought ;)

To the left of the recent threads box is a "new posts" link - I use that rather than the recent threads as hot threads that are slightly older sometimes don't show up in recent threads.
I do look at the "new posts" link but I find that MY recent post never shows up in there  For example, this thread isn't in there, only on the home page list of recent threads.

But isn't that because you've created it/were the last person to post in it so it has no need to show you it because nothing changes?

Grendel, do you mean on the home page? I don't see why not, let me double check with the others :)
Hi Marcel, yes I do mean on the home page. I guess I'm just lazy ;) I do think it would be more convenient though IMO.

I always check Subscribed Threads first (thanks Marcel) and then go onto New Posts after that so I follow up ones I have already posted into first.

Good idea, I hadn't thought of that :bonk:
Mark, you technically don't need to do that.
I don't use the front page alot, as I'm alway on the forums.
Howevr, I use the "New Posts" link extensively. It simply shows a list of threads that have new posts since your last visit...From ALL forums.
If you click it youll see a list.
Down the left hand side, you'll see the thread icons, like http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/images/blue_grey/statusicon/thread_new.gif
If, however, the icon is this http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/images/blue_grey/statusicon/thread_dot_new.gif then it means it's a thread you've already replied to at some point :D (Thus negating the need for also checking subscribed threads)
BTW We've upped the front page number of threads from 10 to 15. However, t's knocked the news segment off the first half...lol
Hope thats a bit better for you Grendel? :)
Kind Regards
Marcel
It's interesting, we all seem to use the site a slightly different way. Personally I tend to keep the home page open and hit the refresh button every now and again. I guess that's why I was struggling with how quick threads were disappearing from the list. Many thanks for the increase Marcel, it'll help loads
just had a look at the unread threads bit. 365 on my list, way too busy for me to even try to keep up :bonk:
