I was just wondering if anyone knew where there are any good independent camera shops in Edinburgh?
So far the only shops I've use are Jessops and Currys but I'd rather support a local shop and I was hoping they might have some decent second hand stock too,

There is also a camera shop on Morningside Road. I cant remember exactly where, but I think it is somewhere near to Waitrose - perhaps slightly back towards town from there. Never bought anything there, but had a lens repaired there before - seemed good.

UK Camera (http://www.ukcamera.com/index.htm) has a huge database of camera shops. It lists about 8 independents in Edinburgh, plus Jessops and Calumet.

Looked a bit sparse last time I was in town but decades ago I always used G D Young in Morrison Street

It's even more sparse now as it's closed down I'm afraid.

jpcameras cameras has been in Montrose Terrace for decades, I can remember the shop from the 70's, not sure when he first opened. The shop front does'nt look too inviting but I've heard if you want your camera sorted in Edinburgh thats the place to go. He has remained in business this long so he must be doing something right.

Edinburgh Cameras on the Mound is a fab wee camera shop... It's front is bright yellow... cant miss it.

All I would say is that its expensive... all independants are... they just cant beat the prices offered by the big online warehouses... So even though edinburgh cameras is owned by a friend of my uncles... even I didn't go there for my EOS 5 as it was amazingly more ecconomic on line... but for small things its good!

Ages since I was in Edinburgh. Think that shop may be the one near Haymarket station.
Sure don't believe in keeping their website up to date. Still on about last minute Christmas shopping.

I use Cameratiks in Morningside for sensor cleans etc. Can't beat Calumet or Jessops though for price, unfortunately.

Gary.
