Tiling (joining) images together into one big picture

I want to take a folder that's got a few hundred small thumbnail Jpegs and tile them all into one big picture, like this:

Does anyone know of any software that will do the job without resizing the thumbnails (I want them kept the same pixel-for-pixel), preferably allowing you to specify the output aspect ratio etc?

That's far too complicated. It needs to make zero changes to the Jpegs, simply tiling them next to each other with no space in between.

can you not do it in photoshop? you could try using some gallery software to make the thumbs, then place them together in PS?

There's a few hundred though. Would take a fair amount of time to do it by hand and I don't know of a way to make an action that'd do it.

if you can install some software to make a mysql app run on your site you can install zenphoto or gallery and use that to generate the thumbs, but the rest i dont know about really

I've cobbled a workaround with a custom PHP script and a bit of patience taking screengrabs.

Google's Picasa does this :)
