Though hopefully quite a tight brief for all you lovely people. It'll be a birthday pressie from the missus, so i'll need to give her a specific make, model, colour, and preferably a link to the site with the best price.

My brief...

A backpack that will hold the following as detailed below. Preferably with some additional space (maybe as outer side pockets?) to hold a couple of drinks bottles and snacks (Mars, Double Decker), and secure attachment for a tripod. Most importantly, it must have nice storage space for filters (100mm x 120mm), filter holder, adapter rings, polarizer, etc so that I can find them easily without having to thumb through each one, and so I am not just tempted to toss them back into the main body of the bag.

Equipment to hold...

Canon 5D
Canon 17-40L
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (will upgrade to Canon at some point)
Canon 70-300 IS (will probably upgrade this too, but not yet)
All my filter gubbins, plus the usual batteries, cards, cloths, rocketblower, etc

I would rather have something bigger than be pushed for space. Lenses are only likely to get bigger/more, and if I have somewhere to put a Berghaus PacLite Extreme that would be handy.

Ok, think that's about it.

Any suggestions?

The Tamrac Adventure backpacks look like a good idea, but I am worried the 'camera section' doesn't look too big, and that the inner flap wont be big enough for all my filter gubbins.

I just bought a fastpack 350 and i would think it would probably take all your kit, potentially with enough space for munchies in the top, but it lacks a tripod mount. I cheat and clip it to the handle and to a strap near the bottom

Thanks Roofie Toofie. That was one I was looking at... Expedition 5? The thing putting me off was the lack of separate 'food/drink' section. I really don't fancy a leaking water bottle all over my camera. But I've just seen on Tamrac site that you can get clip on extra water bottle pouch for the side.

I have the Expedition 8 and it is huge (but very comfortable) and you can fit all sorts of bits to it for water bottles etc, it is a bit big for everyday use so i also use a Slingshot 300Aw .

Tamrac Expedition 7.

Plus you can attach the extra storage bits on the sides if you need them.

I have the same bag ...

Has a separate laptop compartment as well if that floats your boat.

Best bag I have ever had.
