I see at last someone is making these at a more reasonable price

They are, from the picture, not original ie they don't say Canon on the label, but as a backup I'll be interested to hear if anyone tries one. I must say, however that the battery life in the 1Ds3 is quite remarkably good.

I have no first hand experience of third party batteries for the 1D3 and 1Ds3 but I have read comments that weatherproofing may be compromised with such batteries. To be honest, the life from one original battery is so good that I do not see me needing a spare any time soon.

For my xxD bodies I am happy to buy third party batteries from 7dayshop. I have a couple of BP511 replacements from them and they are still going well after 2.5 years of use.

EDIT : The battery linked to above for £43 (+p&P?) looks identical in labelling and spec to the battery from Digital Rev for £27 delivered....

I'm very happy with Digital Rev, having bought a few lenses and filters, and my 50D from them. If I wanted a third party LP-E4 I think I'd be happy to pay their £27 but I don't see much point paying any more than that for a knock off.

Pretty much the same here. I've always had spare batteries with all my previous DSLR's, but I just don't see the need to with the 1DIII.

It may be different for anyone shooting professionally of course.
