Stunning images, did you use fill in flash ? If I remember rightly you used it before on some of your bird shots.

Thanks for the comments folks. :)

I did have the flash mounted, but switched it off for these shots as I find that with squirrel shots, particularly side on shots, their eyes are guaranteed to show nightmare red eye.

I wasn't going to bother ths morning, but I saw a hedgehog roaming around the garden in broad daylight. I raced around grabbing the gear, but by the time I was set up he'd disappeared into the undergrowth. Still.... if I hadn't seen him I wouldn't have got the squirrel shots.

Love the first one...........looks like he's saying "who, me?" as they award an squirrel oscar equivalent.

There's always a better shot Adam or we wouldn't do it. ;)

A long prime of equivalent focal length would make an appreciable difference to the shots I'm sure, but raising the wonga to get one is a problem.

This one made me smile - he was having a real good riff.

Hey CT cracking shots all of them.

Hand held or tripod?

CT
09-10-2006, 15:18
Tripod Davey. I rarely do wildlife or Macro shots without one - I just get a higher percentage of useable shots. The other thing is that with what the tripod and head cost, if I didn't use it, 'er indoors would be likely to shove it where the Sun don't shine.

It's not just you. That's not to be snobbish about it, the independents make some excellent lenses, but my expensive experience over the years has been that the top end glass from Canon, Nikon et al, just produces better colour rendition and contrast. Whenever I've tried to save a few bob I've bitterly regretted it in the end.

Put the rest of us to shame - almost makes me want to give up on wildlife - but at least it gves me something to aim for.
