Divine intervention? Maybe, who knows....but then it is one divine piece of glass as a photographer might say. Yes, I got my 24-70 by sheer good luck today and a big shout to CT for buying my 50mm 1.2L which seemed to start the wheels in motion. I was worried as the 1st march retail is £1500.00 and these are gold dust with an alleged 8 week lead time from Nikon who are clearly hoarding stock. I also have my holiday in the lakes and a few days in Devon/Cornwall with Snapper73 (TP Member). Thankfully, now all covered.

I have some wedding work lined up from May 2009 and this lens installs upmost confidence in me for group/pack shots at all f stop. It is of course ideal for mountain bike work of which I hope to start shooting once the weather changes. This is without doubt, of every lens I have used, (been a few ) in every camp, this is without doubt the sharpest piece of kit I have ever, ever owned. Biting and you need to soften the cameras in camera sharpness I think, but the option is there if needed. Last year I produced and distributed some A3 calendars and the pictures were so sharp that they went to print without any sharpening routines put in place.

Nice one Diego. Mine is permanently on my camera, and your right about the sharpness of this thing.

Yeah - I think the build suits the D3 better but who cares when a lens is this good.

Jeez those pictures are snappy sharp!

Can I ask a stupid question why the silver box - thought they always came in a gold colour box?!

in UK they are gold, in Asia they are all silver boxes. don;t know about America or the rest of the Europe. which comes about the term "grey import"

Strictly rumour from mumblings I've heard!

But I would suggest it'll probably be sold for about £1500 - £1700.

I could of course be way off the mark!

I work for a large UK company who deal with Nikon and yes, the Nikon listed RRP is £1999.99 for the 70-200.

Hmm, time to decide to buy now (Focus on Sunday) or wait until the exchange rate returns to normality and continue using my Push/Pull 80-200 f2.8 until then. I'm guessing that by mid 2010 the rates will be returning to normality although how much longer will it for prices to drop?

You could try to get used ones, when I was after a 70-200 VR again (found one again now) I didn't think Ebay or forum prices were anymore than they were a year ago. A few have gone here lately between £750-£900.

Maybe when the RRP goes up to £1899 then this will change?

I got by 24-70 on here and would go for a 70-200 on here if one ever came up whilst I was on here - I can't imagine it would last long; I got the 24-70 inside an hour and a half.

I avoid e-bay for the big items, too many scammers.

I've had my 24-70 for a week now, coupled with the FX D3, it's a marriage made in photographic heaven!
Congrats on your purchase and those are very nice images you posted.
