Hi everyone. My name is Andy and I am very new to photography. I purchased a Nikon D50 a few weeks ago because I have always wanted to take photographs as a proffession. But do to ill health and 2 operations on my spine, I feel I am well enough to give it a go.
I have just started a foundation course and I intent to start a BA Honors Degree next year.

Please feel free to comment and bare in mind the images I submit are only cropped. No other modifications are made.
the image is in my Gallery, sorry about this, im just setting up a website too. I be ready soon...lol..

Hi Andy and welcome to the forums :)

When you look at your gallery picture just 'copy to clipboard' the link on the page and paste it into your forum post to display the image.

I meant the button at the bottom of the image page but a link to the gallery url is fine too ;)

The otter looks like he could do with the levels tweaked and a sharpen, otherwise it's good :)

You can tick a box in your profile if you are OK with people editing your images btw.

Hi Andy. Really like the photo - perfectly sharp on the eye which is just what it needed. It's a shame the background isn't up to much, maybe a more vivid and larger quantity of green, but that's not really your fault!

Hi all, can I have some comments on the following image.

This was shot on a black background and lighting was placed below in front.
I had a small backlight to add rear aspect.

For me I like the lighting and the subtle shadows of this shot. However the DOF is either too shallow or in the wrong place. I find it slightly off putting that only the front petals are in focus.

On your copy of the post there will be an EDIT button at the bottom. Just use that to edit out the post :)

the flower shot is really nice, i would have tried get a bit more light in though as the shadows make it look a tad harsh
