Just had our card rejected for payment for petrol as 'Not Valid' Fortunately, there was a queue of people with the same problem, all signing IOUs. All the HSBC autobanks seem to be refusing all cards anyway - certainly in this area.

Probably the link to the verification system is down, you can be sure they'll fix that in a hurry. HSBC ATMs run on OS2 (bet ya didn't know that!) which is pretty stable so when there's a problem it's nearly always mechanical or somewhere else.

I wonder of the problem was more widespread, while out shopping this afternoon I noticed that lots of ATM's were off line! and those that were on had major ques.

unfortunately my credit card was not affected by this problem today

OUrs was affected also! My husband went to get groceries and had to leave empty handed.

Ouch. I remember VISA going 'down' about 5-6 weeks ago, which caused alot of problems everywhere.

I used my credit card on Sunday, no problems. But then again I dont back with HSBC :D
