I have been disappointed for some time with my Sigma 70-300DG lens and am looking to replace it,my budget is £250 tops so much as I would like it Canon L series glass is out of the question. So I am looking at the following and feedback from anybody with these lenses would be much appreciated

Canon 55-250 IS
Sigma 70-300 APO
Tamron 70-300 Di LD

I had a go with all three on your list and ended up with the 55-250; better IQ than the others, and the IS is so useful when taking handheld shots at those focal lengths. Depends on what you're shooting, of course, but I don't find I miss the extra 50mm the other two lenses offer. :bat:

Yesterday I had a look at and fired a couple of shot off the

Canon 55-250 IS
Canon 70-300 IS
Canon 70-200 f4 L

And have to say the 55-250 seemed the sharpest to me. I think the 70-200 would have been the best if it had IS but thats twice the price.

There's a Canon 70-300 IS USM going for a fraction over your budget in the For Sale section.
Reviews seem to reckon it's almost "L" quality (image, rather than build).

It might be worth hanging on as they seem to pop up here fairly regularly.
It's a cracking lens and walks all over the Tamron I tried.
It's also EF, rather than EF-S like the 55-250, just in case you've got any full frame aspirations for the future....
