Has anyone got an FM modulater to connect the ipod to car radio? Ive tried an FM transmitter but thats frankly pants, looking for other options!

any experience please:)

Which FM Transmitter did you try ?
I have a Griffin Road Trip and it has been perfect; both in this country and other parts of Europe.

i got a belkin unit. Uberpants around maidstone, Cheese FM breaks in and really disrupts the signal, slap it over to 88. freq. and radio 2 is there

I got the wife a transmitter for her Nano, one of those back slab ones, think it might have been the Griffin. Thing is its infinitely (almost) variable on the tuning, not just a couple of fixed channels. Works absolutely ace in her Bravo (conventional roof aerial) but in my Jag it's pants. Thats because the aerial is built into the rear screen heater and because of all the other electronics it only works on the back seat :cuckoo:

I did look at a modulator for the Jag but decided I wernt that rich :lol:

Concensus seems to be that the cheapo works well.

Don't need one myself as the stereo in my new car has a line in socket in the center armrest box for MP3 players :)

I have a griffin itrip for use with my mini.......if it ever manages to get out of the packing again it'll be because some scavo pikey has found it floating down the river dee.

Biggest load of crud i've ever had the sorry misfortune to own. :razz:

hmmm im very wary

teh Tunecast II i have sucks donkey balls in my area, might be fine in a less heavilyu populated radio area though. Looks like its time to suck up to the wife for a new car radio...

i used to have an fm modulator but yeh they suck wang when theres loads of space, mine was next to useless in the middle of vancouver and it always went pearshaped when i got near preston


i eventualy bit the bullet and bought an input box for my pioneer head unit and its a good solution but the menu system sucks, soundwise its fuggin awesome though!

I looked at various options and finally just bought a new Sony H/U that has iPod connectivity - scroll through all my playlists, albums and everything using the stereo controls.
iPod sits in the glovebox out of sight.
You should be able to buy the connecting box seperately as long as the stereo you've got has a six-pin AUX-in socket at the back.

yeh same with my pioneer, although as my headunit is old its not that intuitive!need a new HU

I have an alpine head unit with built in full speed ipod interface sitting on the floor of my office room doing nothing.
It was awesome when fitted in the hairdresser car, but not quite in keeping with the dash of the grandad mobile.

Just as a little update to this thread. I've ended up 'winning' the nano off the wife. So as the Griffin thing was crap in the Jag I forked out for a Dennison ICE FM unit. Its one of the systems that fit into the antenna line and have a cradle to mount and power the iPod, nano or whatever. So far I'm pleased with the unit, sound is clear and crisp although the volume level is a tad lower than I would ideally like. One draw back is the cost, 80 odd quid, but then it works so what the hell (as long as the wife don't find out :bat: ) :)

i eventually put my foot down, the old Kenny went back in with a Kenny adaptor to plug into cd in on the HU, Ipod lives in glovebox with full control from the headunit. Bliss!
