View Full Version : New lens?
So my b-day is coming up soon and momma wants a new lens. :D Any suggestions people, I like to take pics of people mostly as you all know, so I need a good portrait lens.
It's all very confusing with all the different lenses out there. I don't know what is good and what isn't, so I need all of your help :help: thanks!

Dont know the Nikon range, but a something to 200 zoom (Nikon equivalent to Canons 70-200) would give you quite a wide range for portraits, or maybe a prime lens between 100 and 200mm would be sharper ? :)
Hopefully someone that knows what they are talking about will be along shortly ;)

Or even a 90-100mm prime with macro for dual purpose?

I think a lens with a mm for each year of your life is in order.........so is that a wide angle 20mm on the horizon? :naughty:
or a 100 /runs.......very quickly!!!!!!!!!

Portrait lens???
hmmmm, maybe the Tamron 90mm, a nice lens for portraits and macro too.
Always gets good reviews. I've got one and like it a lot. :)
Nikkor 85mm F/1.8, perhaps?
I love mine :)
There ya go, said people that knew what they were talking about would be along soon ! well except for DF anyway ! 100 ! tsk ! women never go over 21 ! you should know that ! ;)

Yes they do, and it really is the dog's danglies. Virtually as good as the 50mm 1.4, but about a quarter of the cost.
And you're right about women never getting beyond 21, Ian. They have 21st birthdays again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again until they're all of a sudden 40, when life officially begins... (yeah, right, try telling that to John Lennon's widow!)
Thanks for all the suggestions folks but I forgot to ask what the price range would be too? :D
thanks, oh btw I'm 123 and damn proud of it! :p

You might do well with a 70-200 2.8. Either the (cheaper) Sigma version, or the very expensive Nikkor version (which is supposed to be fantastic!)
If you're looking for a pportrait lens have a serious look at the Nikon 105mm VR Macro lens, apparently pin sharp, it's the ideal focal length and you can also do bugs!
thanks, oh btw I'm 123 and damn proud of it! :p
