Oh... D'ya like the way I framed Black Nab? I thought it was quite impressive that I paid attention to that detail. A sign I'm starting to look at some of the detail, not just the overall image? :D

Did you try a wide aperture to throw the background OOF? That view behind is so nice it is competing with the subject for attention but there is a sign and fence with stile in the way :)

I did. But I had my 17-40 on which is only f/4 widest aperture. I didn't really feel there was enough 'blur' when I downloaded the image. TBH, it was really just an afterthought shot as I was getting back in the car and spotted the light on the post.

I'm never too sure how much DoF I get depending on how far away the subject is, etc. Should probably use the DoF guide on my iphone more often. Lesson learnt. 1 reply :(

I think it's an all round aesthetically pleasing shot, the shallower DOF would have been nicer, but you've explained your reasons as to why it is. It's a pretty picture.
