I have been playing around with ligthtroom on my PC, I have about 12,000 photos and it seems to run very slowly. I may try putting another Gig of memory in the PC (I currently have 1 Gig ).

Would this help? If so, anybody now the best (Cheapest) place to get PC memory online?

Thanks...

I always use novatech (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/). Fast delivery and resonable prices

I'd recommend putting another Gig of RAM in but TBH I have 2 Gig in my machine and Lightroom still runs slow?? I hope they speed things up when the beta moves on the the real thing.

Ditto. Very, very fast delivery & ace customer support.

Not the cheapest - but you really don't want the cheapest, honest. Crucial are a good middle ground between unbranded naffness & "high end" stuff which sells mostly by the brand and silly timings.

Yeah 2 gig will make a lot of difference but I use 3 gig and a 4400+X2 AMD 64. Lightroom is very much still a beta so expect performance issues.

I'm glad you said that. I'm running 2 gig of crucial memory on a 4200+X2 AMD 64 and am not that impressed with the performance of Lightroom, or the couple of crashes to date :(

Thanks guys. T
The problems with it got worse and worse, until my PC fianlly froze. It then didn't reboot and I thought it may have been a hrad drive fault. It turns out the hard drive wasn't damaged but Windows was corrupted by switching the PC off so I had to reformat the drive. All very anying, it's a good job most stuff was pretty well backed up.

I'll be avoiding Beta versions from now on though...

I must say I had speed problems with LIghtroom on my PC but I was only running a gig of RAM now that I have it on the MAC it runs fabulously fast but I'm not sure if that is the 2g of RAM or the fact that it runs better on Macs...

seems ok and I'm only running 512mb of RAM on my old Dell with an old PII processor...
Looking at a new HP Notebook for Xmas though...

If you watch the market a little I think you'll find prices falling between Dell and HP. HP recently bought out Compaq (or merged...) and sales figures from recent market research shows that Dell is a significant second place after HP. I can only imagine this will play out well for us consumers - more competition means better kit at lower prices.

Yep - the equivalent Dell is about £1500, whereas the HP I was looking at in Curry's of all places was £895...
