View Full Version : i've had my lowe pro aw200 sling shot since end of last year and only found out...
... there's a velcro at the bottom which has an attached water proof cover
how cool
lol
Yeah, I discovered that by accident too  All Lowepro All Weather bags have it, I think.
Did you also know the interior is 18% grey? (Well, damn close to it anyway.) Handy for incident metering and custom white balance ;)
You're right! Just checked mine.
Cheers!
I had mine the best part of two years before I found the little cleaning cloth attached inside.
The clues in the product code, any Lowepro with AW in the code means all weather and should have a rain cover.

I think it's there to protect the screen on your camera, not for cleaning

Haven't really thought about it or used it. I read about it in a mag review and it called it a cleaning cloth. The Lowepro site just calls it a micro fiber LCD cloth.
:bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk:
My god guys, Do you not investigate new toys and present's for full impact???
Its A rather handy option too!
I've had mine for a couple of years too, and I noticed on a recent trip into Jessops they now have an extra pocket at the bottom, useful, but I couldn't justify buying a new one just for that.

You can carry CDs in that rain slot too, with or without the cover packed ...its sealed with Velcro, so it never falls out.
Also ... the grey internals are in fact intended to be used as an 18% grey card.
And you have found the smaller strap in the other pocket right? ;)

Never thought of that, bet you could get your manual in there too.

Yes, and they are the only company who can do this as the patented the idea. Others can include rain jackets, but not sew them into the bag!!!!

I'd bet your right. :) ...stick it in a plastic sleeve perhaps, your gonna have to scrunch it in.

I found the rain jacket thing about 2 weeks before i sold it
I never knew that the inside was 18% grey either...damn it!
The cleaning cloth i did know, and it came in handy for removing any stray cat hairs that were on the front element

Gentlemen (and I make a small assumption here given that few of the posters appear to have read the instructions - the ladies will be wetting themselves)
This thread sounds like an Alice in Wonderland type story.
Every time there's a post added we all discover something new about our bags.
I'm going to check mine over very carefully right now - maybe there's a pocket containing a fold up gyrocopter I haven't yet noticed. ;)

Good suggestion!

There's a treasure map on the inside of the rain cover, if you photograph it in infra-red :D

Haha, same thing happened to me. My boss bought one of the other bags this week and he didn't know it had a cover either. Always nice to get a wee surprise like that.

Aah yes but that's a red herring.
You can only see the real one if you paint a weak dilution of water and camel dung onto it and then photograph. :suspect:

I've got a 200AW - I found the other day there's a pocket on the side for storing your camera in! Bonus!

I use the rain cover pocket to stick that annoying strap in, that originally had a crummy piece of knicker elastic around it.:D

I've had my Slingshot 200 for 2.5 years and only this week discovered I can fit a 100-400 lens in the top compartment. I had 2 X 580EX flashguns in there previously.

I have an AW bag as well and discovered almost immediately that the AW cover in the pocket underneath means that the bag rolls over almost every time you put it down! It's almost uncanny how often this happens.
Trust me to find a negative if there's one to find.....
I have a 200AW and a 300AW and I bought them because they have rain covers. Am I the only one that even looked at the bag before buying it?
One thing I don't understand is why the 300 is a different design to the 200. Why couldn't they just make it the same but bigger? The 200 if far more comfortable to wear.

I wanted it for the slingshot and not for the rain cover! Its not something that i was bothered about but was a nice surprise!

Blimey! You can! But I can't get it out now!

Do you have a filter attached? I don't. A filter might make it a bit more snug. Mine only needs gentle persuasion to come out.

In the bottom of the main bag, underneath the cleaning cloth, you'll find a doorway to Narnia ...
My Vertex 200 has a whistle on one of the plastic clips that go across your chest...

hmm, i don't think i have one ;-(

ah that thing, yeah i use the strap (soft bit) and this bit to protect the screen

smaller strap in the other pocket?
also what's with the little velcro at the top of the cover when rolled out and round?
can someone please explain the 18% grey thing? You can use an 18% (a measure of it's "greyness") thing to set a reasonable white balance for the environment you are in

Huh?

There was me thinking, all these numpties, not knowing what they've got, when I looked next to the waist band strap dangling out the side and there's a little pocket where it can be tucked tidily away :bonk:

can anybody tell me if the fastpack 200 has the rain cover?
Bought it from ebay so not sure and i have been wondering.

I think that this goes around the top handle on the bag, to keep the cover in place!

The Fastpack series does not have a rain cover. The bags that do have the cover have an "AW" designation at the end of their name to signify "All Weather". See Lowepro's website....

Not white balance.
Correct exposure.

You can buy small elasticated rucksack covers on ebay that fit nicely, I've got one for my Fastpack 350 & one for my Orion Trekker :)

Yes white balance, and correct exposure.
:suspect: I may or may not have just discovered the hidden zip containing the water proof cover on my Nova 5 AW ...
