1/2000th f2.8 and 800asa freezes wing motion
Surprising how fast a wing travells on a small bird.

An extended family of sparrows keeping me amused this afternoon with some sun after heavy rain and wind. EX 420 flash with diffuser on minus one stop fill-in

lovely shots fangman, but i find the background a bit busy for me, which is a shame.
#1 for me, but my, thats a shallow DOF there.

I hate to put a downer on things but they seem very soft/out of focus and very grainy. Were you shooting through the window? If you were, it might be worth setting up an hide in the garden.

Noisy - but a huge leap in sharpness there Phil. Some great captures.

Phil, I can see a massive improvement in image quality and sharpness :)

Not through glass - through an open window. No post processing, just a quick crop in some cases to 6x4 300dpi which I have set up as an action for printing a poscard for a housebound uncle who is dottie about his birds and then through the TFR action to sharpen resize and save for web - to imageshack and posted.
Had to finish agendas etc for a meeting in evening so did not "fiddle". Something to have a closer look at the series for this afternoon after cutting grass and removing leaves! The background was the strange light called sunshine on the wet birch leaves that now are turning colour.
