Is it worth it?

I had one on my 400D, and thought it was a big improvement to the handling of the camera, but the 50D is already a fair bit larger, and already feels good in the hands!

The portait button is a good benefit of course, but not sure it's a benefit worth £130? lol (looking at the official Canon one, BG-E2N)

Thoughts?

I only ever use mine if I'm certain to be doing a LOT of portrait shots :)

I keep mine on permanently and think the camera is far better to handle. Why not look at a 3rd party one instead of a Canon one?

@ Euan, I like having the genuine bits, so it all looks the same, feels the same build quality wise etc :)

Yep i know exactly how you feel, one of the reasons i got the official one too. :thumbs:

Well, I had to go to Hemel to check out a wedding venue (which we have decided against) so it was rude not to go into town, and then Jessops! lol

Tried it out, and it felt good, got them to knock some money off, job jobbed :D

Maybe go for a cheap rip off one from ebay, if you think it isn't going to benefit you much
they go really cheap, around £30.00

Get the genuine canon one though

I know you've bought one, but I've ordered a Phottix one off the bay, shipped from Hong Kong! I'll be reviewing it later in the week :)

mine is on its way from ebay (phottix with 2 spare batteries) I really miss not having vertical shutter button and controls like i used to have on the 400D that i had gripped.

Same, I didn't think I needed it until I started doing football and portrait photography.
It's possible to do it without, but it's effort.

£50 well spent imo!
