i'm interested in buying a new zoom lens for my sony a200. i've been shooting with a sony 28mm prime lens but i've been getting into street photography recently and i'm finding this lens completely unsuitable for the job.
so....i'm looking for a zoom lens, probably up to 200/300mm, costing a max of £300/£350, any suggestions?
thanks!:)
You are in a bit of a no mans lands budget wise. It is over the budget end i.e. Sigma and Tamron 70-300's, but under the next step up which would be the Sony 70-300 G SSM.
For slightly shorter focal lengths there are the second hand Minolta 70-210 Beercan or a Tamron 55-200.
You should be able to get a Beercan for between £120 & £160. The Tamron will cost from about £80 new.

just remember, with the 28mm you will be fairly inconspicous.
Stick a long lens on and you will stick out a lot more.
Have you considered a prime in the range of 50-135?

for street stuff the beercan is quite conspicuous, maybe go for the tamron 55-200mm? Can get it for £79 from bristol cameras.
If you want 300mm reach as said above there is a big gap price wise between the tamron and sigma 70-300mm and the sony 70-300mm G.
You could always go for one of these.

It would leave you plenty to buy say a 70-300 Sigma or Tamron.
I can highly reccomend the Tamron lens. The quality of pictures i have taken with it are great. according to dyxum it gets better reviews that the Beercan and is half the price.
The only gripe I have with it is that it does feel quite plasticy.

but under the next step up which would be the Sony 70-300 G SSM.
another option would be the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 which Park list at £480 - still over budget though :(
