But the question is, what lens to go for?
I think I am going to rent one from Lensesforhire.co.uk as I have rented a few from them before and they are mint.

The 2 that I am considering are:

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro

I don't think that during my play in the world of macro I am going to shoot any wildlife so I have discounted the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L Macro USM for now.

For the most part I want to have a go at water drops, flowers, etc... (any recommendations would be welcomed).

Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance folks.

the sigma 105 is a belter of a macro lens...ideal for your intended use,and cheaper than the canon 100mm.can't comment on the MP-E65 though, but might be worth PM'ing A J Photog(alby)as i know he uses one

If you are going for water and petal type shots the MPE will be waste of time as it's DOF would be pretty useless.

what he says.
according to Alby and others the mpe-65 has a steep learning curve so it would be a bit too deep for jumping straight in with. go for a canon 100mm or the siggy 105

Go for the 100 as the mp-e is a tough lens to learn and needs time to get good results. Use flash, pop the camera in Manual, dial in 1/200, f11 and switch off auto focus. Just move the camera back and forth to get focus and have fun. These are general settings that should get you reasonable results, then you just need to hone you skills ;) Enjoy.

Cheers for that folks.
Well I guess that's decided then.
As I'm renting the lens for now I will go for the Canon 100mm but if I do decide to buy I will look into the sigma.
