OK, first post... this is a shot taken at the weekend of a live gig at The Venue in Preston. The guy's name is Max, and he's the lead singer of a metal band called Manisha Tank. The light on the stage is very variable, and I was using a 50mm f/1.4 at about (I think) 1/250.
Love to know what you all think :)

hello and welcome to TP!
You got great detail here, the green light really accentuates the mood :)

Thanks - I have a lot of trouble shooting at gigs, since I really need to use the 1.4 aperture to get enough light in while shooting at reasonable speeds - trouble is wearing glasses makes it almost impossible to manual focus, and the autofocus picks the wrong thing all the time, which is a pain with the narrow DoF I get from the wide aperture... that was a pleasing exception to the usual fuzziness :)

Not really :)
I get lucky sometimes.
I do know the basics now, just from reading up on stuff on the internet and experimenting, as well as getting a lot of good advice from Jamie (Whitewash)... the man's been an invaluable source of info. I just think the best thing is to go out and shoot shoot shoot :)

great pic... Looks a little like James Hetfield in the olden days.
Nicely done - it's a difficult thing to get right at the best of times - I know...
