Evening all,

Can someone help me here before i scream lol

Updating the firmware to 1.10 from 1.03

Done as said on the nikon site

A upgraded fine and is now 1.10 but B wont do anything, looks like its going to update but then goes back to the menu

tried re doing A, tried different cards each for each, formatting them as said in the menu but nothing at all is working

any ideas?

I can't recall the details exactly, but when I had the D300 I think I had to: -

1. format the card, put only A on it (in the root directory)
2. do the upgrade for A
3. format the card, put only B on it (in the root directory)
4. do the upgrade for B

Not sure if this helps at all.

re-read the instructions on the Nikon site and try again - always worked for me - but do EXACTLY as it says. You could damage the camera if you get it wrong.

You might have a corrupted download of the B software - I've certainly never had a problem installing Nikon firmware updates.

take a deep breath or go and have a cup of tea and then do the download again, but as Andrew says, do the installation EXACTLY as the instructions on the Nikon site say.

I had to do it a couple of times because i didn't read the instructions properly, and when you execute them to the letter it does work fine. Just my bad as usual. Only do one at a time, and only load one at a time to the card too. I dont have a card reader and had to route direct from the PC to Camera. Maybe you have a dodgy card reader .....

It doesn't matter if you can't get B to 1.10 anyhow.

The A stuff contains the fixes.

I got stuck, and it wouldn't do B for me, but then I realised that I'd copied both firmware images to the CF card at the same time (not reading the instructions). once I formatted the card and only put the B update on, it loaded the B update and was fine.

I actually hadn't realised that I'd only updated half of the firmware until I spotted some photo's coming out where the exif read about 7600mm focal length and f95... Once I sorted out the B update, new photo's registered exif properly.

was sick of formatting cards last night, used 3 different cards, even put update a onto one card and b onto another and it wouldnt work, will try a fresh download from different PC tonight and hopefully that sort it
