National Cross Country Relays 2006

Berry Hill Park, Mansfield hosted the 2006 National Cross Country Relays today.
The light was pretty dim so shooting at ISO 800/1600. images have been run through Neat Image.

They ladies don't seem quite as sharp as perhaps they could be, may neat image has removed any sharpening.

I like the expression on number 3 - but find the background just a tad distracting.

It's really difficult when the lights low but i think your getting there :)

#3 is your best one here in terms of both the subject's expression and the overall technical content of the image - the others look way off - #1 looks under-exposed and #2 is OOF.
I know it's a 'mare in low-light conditions, but now you know why Sports Pro's spend £6k on 600mm f/4 lenses.
Remember also that if your subject is running towards you, you can get away with a slower shutter speed to freeze the action than if the subject is running across the frame. A slight amount of blur on the runners' legs will be acceptable as long as the face is sharp.
