It is a good lens and it is good, but only you(tm) can decide if the <zomg>L</zomg> extra quality is required for you. You will get a bit of extra sharpness especially outside the 'core' f range and towards the edges of the image. Also the build quality in the L is better and it will be more resistant to dust etc (but is your body sealed?) The trade off is that the L is going to be heavier... so what if you just leave your camera at home for this walk and miss *THAT* shot!
There is a direct compare here. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/24vs28.shtml
only you can decide if twice the price for L magic is worth it.
Im still saving for a 24-105 L, i did look at the 28-135 as i could get a 2nd hand one cheap but just decided against it in the end. Go and try one and see what YOU think. We all want L but its a huge price jump.
I would love to stay with L as I have 2 L Lens now. And I know they are good but sometime get fed up paying all the extra it cost to get a L

Get the 28-135 second hand when one comes up, save the difference towards the L, when you have the cash sell the 28-135 and buy the L (unless you are happy with the 28-135 then use the savings to buy something else like wireless flash setup that will really change the way you shoot.)
L is not the be aLL and end aLL of photography!
rookies what L lenses do you already have?
I have a
17 - 40 L
70 - 200 F4 L
Why do you fancy the 28-135? Youve nearly got the range covered with some cracking lenses. Or are you after a sort of walkabout?
Yeah I am after a nice walk around lens with IS built in
What you reckon
Best bet mate go and try one i think, at least you can compare your L stuff to it and see what you think.
