Using a tripod as a lightstand

I`ve just bought a couple of cheapo flash holders and brolley adapters, it`s going be for very infrequent use so thought I`d use my manfrotto 055 as a stand if possible.

I`m aware they have different thread sizes, I`ve had a quick look to see if there`s an adapter of sorts. I can only find ones that go from 1/4 to 3/8 and not the other way around.

Any suggestions my good people.

Comes to it, I`ll have to find a lightstand too.

have you checked the tripod/head
Manfrottos sometimes have a smaller thread hiding inside the larger one! :nuts:

I know it does on my monopod, but the tripods not with me, it`s in the boot of my car in the garage.

Thinking about it, isn`t the thread on the QR plate 1/4?

(I haven`t go the kit through the post, so can`t test it hence the stupid questions!)

Can't you use the thread on the quick-release plate?
