View Full Version : Sony A200 Zoooooooooooom lense help!
Hello, just after a quick bit of advice, for those of you who dont know me I'm Sammy and I recently bought a Sony A200 DSLR.
My question is can anyone recommend a larger lense for me that would allow me to get closer to the action.
I am a complete novice and it is only for a hobby so doesnt need to be top of the range.
Just unsure what to look for and would like to pick up a second hand one to help me.
Thanks guys,
this site is awesome!
Sammy

excellent thank you! will need to start saving!
Alternatively, if you really don't want to spend much, look at the old minolta MA mount lenses, you can pick up some bargains!
Also look at www.dyxum.com for most sony fit lenses!
yeah ideally i would like a cheaper lense with a decent zoom that would allow me to practice, i was at Crail Raceway last week and felt my standard A200 lense was not sufficient.

I also just bought a Tamron 55-200mm after it being recommended highly, and it was inexpensive. I needed it quick so ordered it new from Bristol Cameras (http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-tamron-lens-55-200mm-f4-0-5-6-di-ii-ld-macro.htm) (£89 delivered).
Awaiting it's arrival! There are reviews of the lens available on Dyxum.com (http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.asp?IDLens=242).
I have had my A200 almost 2 weeks and also quite quickly felt limited by the 18-70mm kit lens. The 55-200mm seemed like a good idea as it had more zoom but also went wide enough that I could use it for shots of people etc. A bit of an all in one. :)

I've got one of these: http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1011874 Very good price at the moment and much better quality than you'd expect for that money!!
Here's the dyxum page for it: http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/detail.asp?IDLens=242 where it scores a very tidy 4.36 out of 5!!
Just don't use it in low light (it sucks!):D

I have noticed the price going up and down on it over the last couple of weeks!
Just to rub it in a little more I went to their showroom about a week ago and bought it brand new/unopened for £55!! Then 2 days later it was £105, now it's down again to £60!! Not sure what's going on with the price but I'm happy I got it when I did!!
