Although it's not technically a very good photo, it is one of my favourites of my Dad, who sadly died early this morning.

Here he is wishing he was 30 years younger so he could take my bike out, my love of bikes came from him.

Sincere condolences.

Nice photo there, it doesn't need to be perfect cos it's a precious memory. My father past away some 26 years ago and I still think about him most day's. Like you I have a few photos, not perfect, but priceless.

He sounds like a fun loving guy, concentrate on the good things about his life if you can, it will make his passing a little easier for you to bear.

Thanks everyone for all your kind words. What the photo doesn't convey is the fun and games we had getting onto the bike itself, due to his age and stiff old bones we had quite a laugh getting him up there.

Hidden behind the bike is a large wooden block he stood on and then climbed on to the bike, then he had to 'have a minute' while he composed himself for the dismount, of course mid dismount he got cramp, that made him jump of pretty quick :)

You are very brave to share this sad news Andy. I trust memories like those above will comfort you and your family. The loss of a parent is a traumatic thing and the grieving process can take some time. Remember the good times and talk often of the laugh's, the shared experiences and even the bad times. By doing this he will always be with you.

Remembering the good times is sound advice. Not easy at first but as time passes those are the things you think of - not the frailty and passing.

My sympathies.

I'm sorry for your loss Andy, I wish I could find the right words that would comfort you at this time, but I know there are none. I hope you are able to keep strong and draw strength from the love and comfort of your family.

Andy,
I would like to add my sincerest condolences for your loss.

Some wise person once told me that each and every person that they had shared their grief with, took a tiny bit of the pain away with them. I really believe this is true and I know that all the posts I received earlier this year after my dad passed away were a great help me.

I hope you are able to find the strength to get yourself and your family through the coming weeks and months.

Mark

Indeed Mark.

When my dad passed away to cancer some 9 years ago, I found the one thing that really helped me, was not discussing how I felt, but just sharing my memories. My dad was a bus driver, so it really helped when I got chatting to some bus drivers who knew him.

Just talking really really helps heal the pain and the grief, and even though it's quite a cliche, time really does heal.

If you need a chat sir, you just grab me on MSN, PM or email :)

I new Andy's dad a long time and as Andy has told you he was a fun loving and bike mad belated biker. Up untill his health faded he would go to bike meetings and bike shows with us, he was just like one of the lads.
He will have a special place in the heart of all who new him and has made us all better people for being part of his life.

Pete will no doubt be grinnining from ear to ear now in the ton up club in the sky.

Thinking of you pete
