After the Lord Mayors show and it's fireworks yesterday, the other half and I decided to wander along the Thames Path from waterloo bridge to Tower Bridge. These were the result....

1) A different take on my shot of a couple of weeks ago - the Eye is now dressed for Christmas it seems!

2) Then a slightly closer take on the Palace of Westminster

3) The National Theatre caught my eye next

4) A little further along the river - this would have to be one of my favourite London views these days

5) And finally - every tourist's favourite - Tower Bridge.

All comments welcome. Thanks for looking! :D

Witch these are classic shots - all of them but 4 and 5 are particularly superb.

I used to work near the Millennium Bridge and its a lovely area to wander round - you have really done some justice to these sites - and I'm thinking "I live in London - whats stopping me getting out there and doing this...."

Ha. I was also there too. I'd travelled down from Liverpool on the 6:40am train to do a Cosplay shoot. I tried to get the fireworks but the crowd was too busy. Got a couple of shots of the Eye. I didn't realise it was Xmas coloured. Figured it was always red. The last two are a notch up from the others. Its a shame the clock face on BigBen is over-exposed. Always tricky.

No. 4 is an absolute blinder. Looks almost like a rendered image.

Very nice. I like 1, 4,5

Irreverant comment:
I wonder if the people in the eye felt ill after being zipped around at great speeds so you could get your shot (how did you wangle it?) :)

Number 4 is outstanding, although they are all very good.

Youve nailed the exposure...spot on. fantastic shots.

Can I ask something? I would have used a small aperture like F16 or F22 to get the distance in focus...... but you have used F5 on some F9 on others.
What made you change.............and why such large aps when you are using a tripod and can have a long shutter speed?
Maybe I have this aperture thing all wrong :(

I love all those, although I'm a bit partial to the Tower Bridge shot. :)

Thanks for the comments guys - I'm pleased that no. 4 has proved so popular as that's my fave!

Janice - I opened the aperture right up for the Westminster one as I was struggling with getting the Clock face on St Stephens tower not to blow out. as Pete quite rightly points out I haven't quite managed it - although a bit of a squint just reveals the hands at the centre of the face! For the most part I don't go larger than f9 on night shots like that though - as I like the "twinkling" light effects you get with the longer exposures.

Pete - we very possibly pretty much walked straight past each other then! We watched the fireworks from the embankment - just past the Golden Jubilee Bridges (which was where I intended to set up really but got there too late! Doh!) - I think I must have got the last tripod-sized hole in the crowd but I was realy too far away to get anything much.

I'm really loving the whole business of night-shots now - I'm effectively doing more with the camera after dark now than in daylight!

I would have said #2, but for the blown out highlights - maybe an HDR candidate?

#4, like everyone else has said, is just superb - by far and away the best of the bunch. #5 is great too, but a little cliched...

...but we only call them cliches cos they're good, right?
